브레이크뉴스 노보림 기자= 작품은 작가를 닮는다는 말이 있다. 어찌보면 창작자의 생각이나 작업 환경은 그대로 작품에 투영될 수 밖에 없다. 때문에 작품을 들여다 보기 이전에, 작가를 먼저 들여다 보면 그 작품을 보다 잘 이해할 수 있다. 이에 브레이크뉴스는 국내 작가들과의 릴레이 인터뷰를 통해 작가의 작품은 물론, 삶의 이야기를 들어보는 시간을 가지려고 한다. <편집자 주>
-작품을 그릴 때 주로 어디에서 영감을 받나.
작가 자신의 기억과 무의식 속에서 영감을 얻는다. 일상 생활 속 느껴지는 다양한 감정에서 영향을 많이 받는다. 가끔 알 수 없는 나의 감정 상태에 의문이 들기도 하였다. 그러한 감정을 글로 남길 수 없는 세밀한 부분을 그림으로는 풀어볼 수 있을 것 같았다. 작품을 하면서 캔버스 위에 내면의 감정 변화를 기록하고 싶었고, 지나가는 시간의 흐름 속에 남겨지는 흔적과 그 흔적이 남아있는 공간과 시간의 흐름에 대하여 기록하고 ‘나’의 자취를 그림으로 자유롭게 풀어나가려 한다.
-독자들에게 자신의 작품 2~3점 소개해 달라.

작품을 보았을 때 자유롭고 따듯한 느낌이 든다. 제일 좋아하는 색인 노랑과 주황색이 많이 쓰여져 있고 자유로운 드로잉 선들로 다채롭게 표현해보았다. 나의 기억 속 밝았던 어느 화창한 날을 표현해 보고 싶어 시작한 작품이었다. 택스처에 쓰여진 그대로 ‘내가 가장 좋아하는 것들’ 을 떠올리며 기분 좋게 시작한 그림이며 작품을 진행하면서 형상화시키고 무의식적으로 표현되는 부분들을 남겨 또 하나의 흔적으로 남겨졌다.

다채로운 색들과 곡선들이 섞여 자유분방한 표현을 볼 수 있다. 제목인 프리덤, 말 그대로 내재돼 있는 자유로운 감성을 끄집어 내어 표현한 작품이다. 어디선가 튀어 나온 듯한 물고기, 알 수 없는 숫자의 의미, 반복되는 점, 알 수 없는 드로잉 선 등 무의식적으로 ‘자유’라는 단어를 생각할 때 떠오르는 형상을 계획하지 않은 상황에서 표현했다.
-왜 작가로서의 삶을 선택했나.
‘나’ 자신의 감정을 글로 표현하기에는 한정적이라는 생각이 들어 , 알 수 없는 나의 감정을 추상적인 이미지로 형상화 시켜 나를 기록해보고 싶었다. 이렇게 표현해 가며 기록되어진 작품을 보면, 나도 모르는 감정들을 깨닫게 되는 순간도 있고, 나 자신을 위로할 수 있는 방법을 찾아서 계속 작업을 하게 되었다. 작품을 계속하다 보니, 작품을 보며 위로받기도 하고 나에 대해서 온전히 들여다볼 수 있는 시간을 갖게 되어 너무 좋았다. 어느 순간부터 작업하는 것이 일상 속에서 한 일부가 된 느낌을 받게 되었다. 또 전시를 해보니 공감해주는 관람객도 있고, 알아봐주고 같이 느껴줄 수 있는 사람들이 생겨 작가를 더욱 하고 싶은 계기가 되었다.
-작가로 활동하며 가장 힘들었던 순간이 있다면 언제였나. 반대로 가장 행복했던 순간은?
나의 감정을 주제로 작품을 진행하다 보면, 한없이 감정에 깊이 빠지거나 한곳에 너무 몰두하게 되어 전체적으로 작품을 보지 못할 때 어려움을 느낀다. 현실에서 느껴지는 감정을 기록하거나 남기는 것이 목적이긴 하지만, 그 사이에서 어떠한 감정을 드러낼지 갈등하는 머릿 속에서 복잡해질 때 힘들었던 것 같다. 그러다 또 나의 감정이 정리가 잘 되고 그림으로도 표현이 잘 되었을 때는 뿌듯함과 또 다른 나의 내면을 발견하는 부분에서 행복을 느낀다.
-앞으로의 전시 계획은
다가오는 12월 n646 갤러리카페에서 ‘신진작가‘ 개인전을 한 달간 진행한다. 내년에는 조금 더 작업에만 몰두할 수 있을 것 같다. 준비가 되는대로 사람들이 쉽게 공감할 수 있고, 소통할 수 있는 작품을 선보일 예정이다.

Q: Where do you usually get inspiration when you paint.
Inspired by the writer's own memory and unconsciousness. It is greatly influenced by various emotions felt in everyday life. Sometimes I wondered about my unknown emotional state. It seemed that I could solve the detailed parts in which such emotions could not be left in writing with a picture. While working on the work, I wanted to record my inner emotional changes on the canvas, and I want to record the traces left in the passage of time and the space and passage of time where the traces remain, and freely unravel the traces of "I" with a picture.
Please introduce two to three pieces of your work to the readers.
When I see the work, I feel free and warm. Many of my favorite colors, yellow and orange, are written and expressed in various ways with free drawing lines. It was a work that I started to express a sunny day in my memory. As written in the taxure, it is a painting that started happily by recalling "my favorite things," and it was left as another trace by leaving parts that were embodied and expressed unconsciously as the work progressed.
You can see a freewheeling expression with a mixture of colorful colors and curves. The title, Freedom, is a work that literally expresses the inherent free sensibility. He expressed the shape that comes to mind when he unconsciously thinks of the word "freedom," such as fish that seem to have sprung out of nowhere, the meaning of unknown numbers, repeated points, and unknown drawing lines.
Why did you choose to live as a writer.
I felt that "I" was limited to expressing my feelings in writing, so I wanted to record myself by embodying my unknown emotions in abstract images. Looking at the work recorded in this way, there are moments when I realize emotions that I don't even know, and I found a way to comfort myself and kept working. As I continued to work, I was comforted by the work and it was so nice to have time to fully look into myself. At some point, I felt that working became a part of my daily life. In addition, when I exhibited it, there were visitors who sympathized, and there were people who could recognize and feel together, which became an opportunity to become a writer even more.
What was the most difficult moment while working as a writer? On the contrary, what was the happiest moment?
When I work on the subject of my emotions, I feel difficult when I am infinitely deeply immersed in emotions or get too immersed in one place to see the work as a whole. The purpose is to record or leave behind the emotions felt in reality, but it seems to have been difficult when it became complicated in the conflicting mind about what emotions to reveal in between. Then, when my feelings are well organized and expressed in pictures, I feel proud and happy in the part of discovering another inner self.
-What are your plans for future exhibitions
In December, a solo exhibition of "New Artist" will be held at the n646 gallery cafe for a month. I think I can focus on my work a little more next year. As soon as it is ready, it will showcase works that people can easily sympathize with and communicate with.
