다만 아직까지 영화관은 코로나19(신종 코로나바이러스 감염증) 여파로 인해 피해가 이어지고 있다. 특히 극장 관객수를 살펴보면, 평균 동월 대비 급격하게 감소하며 침체가 지속되고 있다.
24일 영화진흥위원회 영화관입장권 통합전산망 집계결과에 따르면, 지난 23일 디즈니·픽사 신작 <소울>은 13만 837명의 관객을 동원하며 누적 관객수 28만 3445명으로 박스오피스 1위를 기록했다.
<소울>에 이어 박스오피스 2위는 일본 애니메이션 <극장판 귀멸의 칼날: 무한열차편>(5352명)이, 3위는 미스터리 온택트 호러 <커넥트>(8512명)가, 4위는 슈퍼히어로 블록버스터 <원더우먼 1984>(54만 2377명)가, 5위는 리마스터링 재개봉작 <화양연화>(9만 4911명)가 차지했다.
뒤이어 <파힘>, <테넷>, <모추어리 컬렉션>, <블라인드>, <라스트 프론티어> 등이 박스오피스 10위권에 이름을 올렸다.
