It was found that the free cash flow (FCF), an indicator of the dividend capacity of listed companies in large domestic companies, increased by more than 17 trillion won in a year.

There is a prospect that companies' dividend payout ratio will increase, but the possibility of stockpiling them as cash equivalents is raised as they are focusing on securing cash due to increased management uncertainty caused by the prolonged Corona 19.

According to the CEO score on the 25th, a total of 28,145.4 billion won was calculated as a result of a survey of the accumulated free cash flows on an individual basis in the third quarter of this year of 259 listed companies of the 500 domestic companies. This is an increase of 163.1% (17,448.6 billion won) from 10,696.7 billion won in the same period last year.

143 companies (55.2%), more than half of all companies, have increased their free cash flow compared to last year. In particular, SK Hynix recorded the largest increase of 7,4283 billion won, from -4,9366 billion won last year to 2.491.8 billion won this year.

Following Samsung Electronics (3,9889 billion won), LG Chem (3,334.9 billion won), Korea Electric Power Corporation (2,656.9 billion won), Samsung Securities (2,291.8 billion won), Mirae Asset Daewoo (2,495 billion won) ), Meritz Securities (KRW 1.883.3 billion), Hyundai Motor (KRW 1.81 trillion), and E-Mart (KRW 1.72 trillion) increased by more than 1 trillion won.

In the cumulative free cash flow in the third quarter, Samsung Electronics ranked first with 4.298.5 billion won, Korea Gas Corporation (2,6371 billion won), Mirae Asset Daewoo (2,5873 billion won), and SK Hynix (2,491.8 billion won) ), and LG Chem (2,3682 trillion won) ranked in the top five.

There are 116 places where free cash flow has decreased, Samsung Life Insurance (-4 trillion 899.9 billion won), Kia Motors (-2 trillion 721.9 billion won), Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (-2,453.5 billion won), Shinhan Holdings (-2 trillion won) 77.5 billion won), Samsung Card (-1,779.9 billion won), and NH Investment & Securities (-1,561.3 billion won), followed by a significant decrease.

Amid the surge in free cash flows from large corporations, the cash equivalents accumulated by corporations also increased significantly. As of the end of the third quarter, 259 cash equivalents (individual basis) amounted to 88.763.3 billion won, an increase of 32.3% (21,678.5 billion won) from 67,84.8 billion won at the end of last year.

It is interpreted that large corporations are accumulating cash as management uncertainty caused by Corona 19 increases. In particular, short-term financial products such as deposits from financial institutions were larger than cash equivalents currently held.

In the case of Samsung Electronics, cash equivalents on an individual basis were KRW 2.7 trillion, but short-term financial products amounted to KRW 25,706 billion, a total of KRW 28,406.6 billion. On a consolidated basis, cash equivalents amounted to KRW 26,5661 billion, short-term financial instruments KRW 89,694 billion, and liquidity funds amounted to KRW 116,2601 billion. At the end of September last year, it was less than 100 trillion won at 96.82 trillion won, but this year it secured far more than 110 trillion won in cash.

POSCO also surpassed 10 trillion won with KRW 2,986.9 billion in cash equivalents and KRW 8,452.9 billion in short-term financial products, with KRW 11,439.8 billion. Kia Motors and Hyundai Motors also recorded short-term financial products of KRW 6,262.5 billion and KRW 4,332.9 billion, respectively, with current capital of KRW 7,5244 billion and KRW 4,8601 billion.
