지하철 4호선 과천·안산선의 출퇴근 시간대 운행 횟수가 오는 10월 30일부터 2회 늘어 운행된다.
민선8기 신계용 과천시장의 공약사항의 하나로 과천시가 추진하고 있는 지하철 4호선 과천·안산선의 출퇴근 시간대 증차가 성과를 거둔 것.
이번 4호선 과천·안산선 열차 증편 운행으로 출근시간대인 오전 7시부터 9시, 퇴근시간대인 6시부터 8시까지 상하행 열차가 각 1대씩 증편 운행되어 운행간격이 약 1분 정도 줄어들게 될 것으로 전망된다.
과천시는 그간 시민의 교통 편의 증진을 위해 서울메트로와 코레일 등과 4호선 증차를 위한 논의를 수차례 진행해 왔다. 신계용 과천시장은 원희룡 국토부 장관과 만난 자리에서 과천시의 4호선 증차 추진 배경을 설명하고, 이에 대한 개선을 요구하는 등 일련의 노력을 지속해왔다.

지난 8월 9일에는 과천시 주도로 안양·군포·의왕·안산·시흥·광명 등 7개 지자체가 4호선 증차를 위한 공동 대응을 골자로 하는 업무협약을 맺기도 했다.
신계용 과천시장은 이번 증차 운행과 관련해 “시민의 교통편의 증진을 위해 꾸준히 노력해 온 것이 성과로 이어지게 돼 기쁘게 생각한다. 여기에서 그치지 않고 앞으로도 관계기관과 협력하여 추가 증차가 될 수 있도록 적극 노력하겠다”라고 밝혔다.
한편 서울 구간(당고개~사당)도 상하 행 각각 1편씩 증편돼 4호선 전체로는 운행횟수가 총 4회 늘게 됐다.
