Publication of 'Pungpaejiprok(豊沛集錄)' in Korean translation

A total of 506 pagesJeonju cultural assets and historical records in the late Joseon Dynasty

A book has been published that provides a glimpse into Jeonju’s past, including information on cultural assets and historical sites of Jeonju at the end of the Joseon Dynasty.

The city of Jeonbuk, North Jeolla Province, said on the 1st, "The Jeonju Museum of History has published a new record about Jeonju, 'Pungpaejiprok(豊沛集錄)', titled 'Korean Translation of Poongpaejiprok' so that more citizens can see it." revealed

Published in a vast amount of 506 pages in total, 'Pungpaejiprok of Korean Translation' helps readers understand terms by adding notes to difficult texts such as separate markings and Sangryangmun so that readers can easily understand them.

'Pungpaejiprok(豊沛集錄)' is a book compiled by Chae Gyeong-muk, a 19th-century Jeonju resident, visiting government offices, pavilions, monuments, and Jeongryeo in Jeonju and transcribing Kimun Sangryangmun Poetry Epitaph.

Out of a total of 177 articles, about 147 articles are evaluated as new materials that are not included in 'Wansanji' of Jeonju-eupji.

'Wansanji' introduced the representative contents of Jeonju's local system and characters until the end of the 18th century, but 'Pungpaejiprok' contains the overall humanistic landscape of Jeonju at a specific point in time, the end of the 19th century.

Jeolla Gamyeong Jeonju Buseong Jeonju Hyanggyo Gyeonggijeon Jogyeongmyo Pungpaeji Hall(Jeonju Gaeksa) Namgojin and Namgosanseong Fortress Jeonju Seonghwangsa Temple Songgwangsa Temple, as well as government offices schools, etc. A wide range of information is covered.

In the Pungpaejiprok, the most noteworthy data related to the post-Baekje cultural area project is the period of the middle of Seonghwangsa Temple.

Seonghwangsagi is a representative record that refers to Donggosanseong Fortress as Gyeonhwonseong. The oldest record was recorded in 'Jeonjubusa (1943)', but the previously published 'Pungpaejiprok' also contains Seonghwangsagi, which has the reliability of advancing the time of the record.

It is also evaluated as a book with great value in terms of restoring Jeolla Gamyeong.

This is because it contains Jeolla Gamyeong Seonhwadang and Jakcheong’s Juryeonmun(a writing hanging on a pillar to show the character of the building and enhance its dignity).

Here, the status of Jeonju as the birthplace of the Joseon Dynasty and the heavy responsibility and attitude of the Jeolla Governor are engraved.

Hwang Kwon-joo, director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Jeonju City, said, "I hope that through the Korean translation of Pungpaejiprok, we will be able to more easily approach the classical literature that contains the history of Jeonju."

On the other hand, Jeonju City went through the Japanese colonial period and industrialization, and many of the remains and tablets of Jeonju disappeared, leaving only the data contained in some literature such as 'Wansanji'. It is hoped that it will be used as a valuable resource.

Lee Dong-hee(former director of the Jeonju Museum of History), Kim Soon-seok (director of the Jeonju Institute of Traditional Culture), Kim Hee-gyeong(committee at the Korean Classics Translation Institute), Moon Mi-ae(Korean Literature lecturer at Chonbuk National University), Bae Bae-ok( Chonbuk National University Department of History) and Shin Yong-kwon(participating researcher at the Honam Institute of Korean Studies) participated.
