브레이크뉴스 박동제 기자= <추격자>, <황해>, <곡성>의 나홍진 감독이 플러스엠엔터테인먼트(대표 홍정인)와 손 잡고 새 영화 <HOPE>(가제) 제작에 박차를 가한다.
30일 플러스엠엔터테인먼트는 “최근 나홍진 감독과 신작 <HOPE>의 투자·배급 관련 계약을 마쳤다”고 밝혔다. 나홍진 감독과 제작사 포지드필름스는 최상급 퀄리티의 완성도를, 플러스엠엔터테인먼트는 프로젝트의 성공을 위한 전폭적인 지원을 약속했다.
나홍진 감독의 새 영화 <HOPE>(가제)는 고립된 항구마을 호포항에서 시작된 의문의 공격에 맞서는 주민들의 이야기다. 마을 외곽에서 미지의 존재가 목격된 후, 그 실체를 수색하다 마을이 파괴될 위기에 놓인 주민들의 사투를 그려낼 예정이다. 압도적인 마스터피스를 선보이며 주목받았던 나홍진 감독이 글로벌 시장까지 고려하며 치밀하게 기획한 신작 프로젝트다.
나홍진 감독은 “누군가의 선의가 입장의 차이를 거쳐 끝내 파국으로 치닫는 모습이 사회 곳곳에서 발견되곤 한다. 이번 영화는 이런 현상을 담아보려 한다”면서 “주제의식을 영화의 형식적 측면에 반영해 지금껏 한 번도 보지 못한 작품을 선보일 계획”이라고 기획 의도를 밝혔다.
‘한 번도 보지 못한 작품’을 표방한 만큼 기획뿐 아니라 캐스팅도 눈길을 끈다. 황정민, 조인성, 정호연 등 국가대표급 출연진과 할리우드 명품 배우들이 합심해 진용을 갖췄다.
먼저 영화 <곡성>에서 ‘일광’역을 맡아 명연기를 펼친 황정민은 <HOPE>에서 시골 경찰 ‘범석’을 연기하며 나홍진 감독과 다시 한번 호흡을 맞춘다.
