윤석열 대통령이 지난 24일 취임 후 첫 '서해수호의 날' 기념식에 참석해 서해용사들 이름을 일일미 호명하는 '롤콜(roll-call)'은 물론 독회 당시에도 목 메여 말을 잇지 못했다고 대통령실이 26일 전했다.
이도운 대통령실 대변인은 이날 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 기념식 준비 당시 독회때도 전사자 사진·인적사항을 보면서 "20~21살 꽃다운 나이에.."라며 알을 잇지 못했다고 전했다.
이 대변인은 이와 관련해 "(윤 대통령이) 꽃다운 나이에 사랑하는 장병을 생각하면 어찌 평정을 유지할 수 있겠냐고 했다"며 "묘역을 찾은 게 두 번째인데 그때마다 묘비 뒤편 출생·사망연도를 보고 마음속으로 엄청 울었다고 말했다"고 전했다.
그러면서 "윤 대통령은 처음 정치 선언때부터 천안함 용사 전준영 병장을 언급하며 대한민국을 만들고 지키는 여러분들과 함께하겠다는 의지를 천명한 바 있다"며 "대통령의 이런 뜻에 따라 국가보훈처·국방부·대통령실은 이번 행사를 준비하며 처음부터 (롤콜을) 기획했다"고 전했다.
또 "2015년 한국전 참전용사 기념재단이 워싱턴 DC에 한국전 기념공원을 건립하고 추모의 벽을 세우는 과정서 윌리엄 웨버 이사장이 무려 3일에 걸쳐 3만5000여명 미군 장병 이름을 직접 부르고 또 이듬해인 2016년엔 무려 6시간에 걸쳐 카투사 장교 7000명 이름을 호명한 것을 착안해 이번 행사를 기획했다"고 덧붙였다.
