KB Kookmin Bank, temporary implementation of the household debt soft landing support program

1%p reduction in overdue interest rate and full exemption of early redemption fees for vulnerable borrowers

Break News reporter Moon Hong-cheol= KB Kookmin Bank is temporarily implementing the ‘Household Debt Soft Landing Support Program’ to preemptively respond to the expansion of household insolvency and to ease the financial burden of vulnerable borrowers due to the recent high interest rate.

The household debt soft landing support program is a follow-up measure to reduce the financial cost of household loan borrowers following the’lowering interest rates on housing mortgage loans and cheonsei loans’ implemented on the 18th.

If the previous ‘Loan Interest Rate Reduction’ was to support general borrowers, this program is designed to provide customized support for vulnerable borrowers, such as overdue borrowers and borrowers with low credit.

First, as a preemptive support measure for borrowers concerned about insolvency, KB Kookmin Bank will reduce the overdue interest rate applied when loans are overdue by 1%p. The target of support is customers using KB Kookmin Bank household loans. As the overdue interest rate is lowered, the possibility of easing the interest burden of overdue borrowers and normalizing loans is expected to increase.

KB Kookmin Bank is building a related computer system with the goal of implementing it within the next month, and plans to implement it as soon as the system is completed.

In addition, KB Kookmin Bank will fully exempt prepayment fees for household loans from the 10th of next month. This is to contribute to the stabilization of domestic household debt risk by encouraging vulnerable borrowers to repay their loans early.

The target customers are borrowers rated 5 or lower by an external credit rating agency (CB) and are automatically exempted from loan repayment, including partial repayment, regardless of the elapsed period of the loan. There is no specific limit on the number of exemptions.

Previously, KB Kookmin Bank introduced various measures last year to support the financially vulnerable. In July, the new interest rate for microfinance support loan products for low-income workers and small businesses was lowered by 1.0%p per year. The preferential interest rate applied to housing-related loans for the disabled, basic living security recipients, and labor incentive recipients has been expanded from 0.1%p to 0.3%p, and has been in operation until now.

An official from KB Kookmin Bank said, “This program was planned to support the soft landing of household debt by easing the financial burden of vulnerable borrowers during the high interest rate period, such as the base interest rate reaching 3.50%.” We will do our best to play the role of a safety net for our society so that we can coexist.”
