이 후보는 20일 보도자료를 내고 “도농복합도시 청주의 위상에 맞는 읍면지역 활성화를 위한 다양한 정책을 펼쳐야 한다”며 “생명농업 특화와 로컬푸드센터 활성화를 위해 적극 지원하겠다”고 전했다.
생명농업은 농축임업의 부산물을 재활용해 농산물을 생산하는 방법으로 친환경 농법, 건강한 먹거리, 바른 농촌문화를 펼칠 수 있는 21세기형 농업형태로 퇴비, 자연 상태에서 채취한 토착미생물, 한방 영양제, 천연녹즙 등을 공급해 건강하고 환경친화적인 방식으로 농사를 짓고 건강한 먹거리를 만드는 활동을 말한다.

이 후보는 이외에도 농촌 스마트마을 조성, 테마관광마을 조성, 도시농업 연계, 청주형 클라이가르텐 조성 등 농촌지역 활성화를 위한 다양한 정책을 추진할 방침이다.
특히 스마트 기술을 활용한 친환경농업 집적화, 청년창업, 기술혁신 등 생산·교육·연구 기능이 집약된 첨단 융복합 클러스터인 스마트팜 혁신벨리 유치도 추진할 예정이다.
앞서 이 후보는 도시농촌활성화 재단을 설립해 체계적인 도시와 농촌재생을 추진할 것을 약속하기도 했다.
이 후보는 “청주는 100만 자족도시를 향해 가는 대형 도농복합도시의 위상을 갖추게 되었다”며 “체계적이고 지속적인 스마트 생명농업 클러스터를 특화해 명실상부 도농이 함께 어우러지는 청주시가 되도록 하겠다”고 전했다.
