Daegu City announced on the 16th that it had signed a business agreement with Daeyoung Chaevi Co., Ltd. to install and manage electric vehicle charging facilities for existing public facilities.

Since 2016, when the electric vehicle supply business first started, the government-led charging infrastructure construction project has been the main focus as the private charging business has not been active due to low business viability due to the lack of charging demand.

In the case of Daegu City, by opening the charger control center in 2017, the charging infrastructure construction project, charger management and operation, and call center operation to respond to civil complaints have been made to minimize the inconvenience of charging electric vehicle users.

However, as the growth rate of electric vehicles has risen sharply due to the government's policy to expand the supply of electric vehicles and the launch of various types of vehicles that satisfy consumer needs, it has become difficult to respond to the rapidly increasing demand for charging as a government-led project.

In addition, with the recent revision of the Eco-Friendly Vehicle Act, the obligation to install charging facilities at least 2% of the total number of parking areas is imposed on existing facilities with more than 50 parking spaces. The time has come to do it.

In response, Daegu City decided to cooperate with a private charging company to increase the efficiency of installing, managing, and operating charging facilities for existing public facilities, and signed an agreement with a local company, Daeyoung Chaevi, to start the transition to a privately-led charging business.

With this opportunity, the city was able to meet the statutory charging facilities for public facilities, and local companies were able to contribute to the creation of an industrial ecosystem related to the charging business as an opportunity to increase their charging business capabilities and create a new revenue model.

In particular, Daeyoung Chaevi is a company that directly manufactures chargers along with the charging business, and it is expected that it will be able to provide high-quality charging services to citizens through stable charging services and easy development of new services.

Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin said, "With this agreement, which provides an opportunity to transform the electric vehicle charging business into a full-fledged private-led business, it is expected that an eco-friendly car-related industry ecosystem will be created centered on the Daegu area, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy."
