K-Defense Industry, come forward! 1 trillion won in exports to Hanwha and Saudi Arabia.

"benefits from defense companies due to the Ukra incident." After Cheongung II and K-9, exports to the Middle East have been successful!

The "front of the charge" of domestic defense companies such as Hanwha Defense, LIG Nex1 and Pungsan toward the world is dazzling.

According to foreign media and defense industries on the 9th, Hanwha Defense signed a 3 billion Riyal (about 984.6 billion won) defense industry contract with the Saudi Ministry of National Defense on the 8th. This is nearly half of the total contract amount signed by the Saudi Ministry of National Defense with domestic and foreign defense companies (7 billion riyals).

Hanwha Defense participated in "WDS 2022," the largest international defense exhibition in the Middle East, held from the 6th to the 9th in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and introduced various advanced weapons.

Both sides did not disclose specific details of the contract. However, it is known that Hanwha Defense has signed a supply contract for Biho II, a high-performance complex. Biho II is an anti-aircraft weapon equipped with 30 to 40mm viewing cannons and short-range surface-to-air missiles on a tiegon, an eight-wheeled armored vehicle developed by Hanwha Defense.

It is one of the weapons systems that the Saudi government, which is under drone and ballistic missile attacks from neighboring countries, has hurried to introduce. Hanwha Defense signed a 2 trillion won K-9 self-propelled gun contract with the Egyptian government last month and won another trillion won contract in a month.

The propaganda of Pungsan, which manufactures military and sports bullets, is also notable.

Pungsan signed a contract with the Saudi Ministry of National Defense to supply ammunition worth 460 million riyals (about 150 billion won.

LIG Nex1 also signed a contract worth 250 million riyals (about 82 billion won) in connection with the interception system system that can protect security facilities. LIG Nex1 is also known to be exploring exports of Cheongung II with the Saudi government.

It is observed that Heavenly Palace II has emerged as the No. 1 candidate as its rival Russia was subject to export and financial sanctions by the international community due to the invasion of Ukraine. LIG Nex1 signed a $3.5 billion contract with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government in January.

The defense industry is paying attention to the possibility that the Ukrainian incident could put a brake on the arms exports of Russia, the world's second-largest defense industry. Analysts say that conditions have been created to increase domestic arms market share in the Middle East, which mainly introduced Russian-made weapons.

Some predict that domestic defense companies could benefit from Saudi Arabia, the "big hand" in the Middle East, being unable to import U.S. weapons. Saudi Arabia was banned from importing U.S. weapons in February last year, shortly after the Joe Biden administration took office, citing its participation in the Yemen civil war.

The government and defense industry expect exports of the "K Defense Industry" to exceed $10 billion this year.

According to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (Director Kang Eun-ho), defense exports remained around $3 billion a year from 2010 to 2020. However, exports surged to $7 billion last year as orders, including a KRW 1 trillion K-9 self-propelled gun contract signed with the Australian government late last year, continued.

Expectations are high for the K defense industry's "forward of the charge.“
