Yeongdong-gun, KEPCO and Urban Electric Wire Underground Electricity Business Agreement

-im changyong reporter

Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do is accelerating the underground cable underground project in the central city of Yeongdong in partnership with the Korea Electric Power Corporation.

On the morning of the 12th, the military held an implementation agreement ceremony with the Korea Electric Power Corporation for the implementation of the underground electric wire project in the 0.7km section from the Yeongdong County Election Commission to Ant Restaurant in Yeongdong-eup from the Yeongdong County Governor's Office.

This agreement was prepared for efficient and smooth implementation through mutual cooperation between the two organizations regarding the undergrounding of existing overhead distribution lines.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, only a minimum number of people attended the signing ceremony, including Mayor Park Se-bok and Lim Eung-seon, head of the Yeongdong branch of Korea Electric Power Corporation.

The two organizations decided to systematically promote the project under active mutual cooperation.

The underground electric wire project is a project to underground the electric wire poles and aerial lines in the 0.7km section from the Yeongdong-gun Election Committee in Yeongdong-eup to Yeongdong Station, from the Great Hall to the Gaemi Restaurant.

The main process is to bury the tangled wires like a spider's web in the ground and remove the telephone poles.

Although this area is a central area with a lot of traffic by vehicles and people, it was a section where electric poles and electric wires were tangled, which spoiled the aesthetics and caused a high risk of safety accidents.

As the existing projects were highly effective and well-received by the citizens, the county systematically prepared an open call project based on the opinions of residents and was selected for the project at the end of last year.

The total project cost will be 4 billion won, and Yeongdong-gun, Korea Electric Power Corporation and telecommunication service providers will share 50% of the project cost.

It is expected to be completed in October next year at the earliest.

When the design is completed after the signing of the agreement, a resident briefing session to explain the project outline and how to proceed with the project will be held in December, and then underground construction will begin in earnest.

In order to minimize inconvenience to residents, it is also planning to hold a double excavation prevention meeting and bury the old water pipe in the replacement target site in parallel.

When the underground project is completed, it is expected that it will improve pedestrian and road environment and prevent safety accidents, as well as make the city more clean, play a big role in improving the living conditions of local residents and revitalizing local commercial areas.

Mayor Park Se-bok said, “If the underground construction is in progress, there will be some inconvenience to the citizens, such as noise and vibration, but we ask for your understanding and cooperation, considering that it is a necessary project for the improvement of the quality of life and the development of Yeongdong.” We will work together with KEPCO, the contracting institution, to improve the aesthetics of a beautiful and clean city and ensure the safety of the citizens.”

Meanwhile, the military has completed the project for 5 sections (L=4.45Km) from 2013 to the present, and is pushing for 0.6Km of the special street electric wire undergrounding project (Elim Electricity ~ Taeil Shopping Street), which is the central city area of Yeongdong.

Along with the section agreed on that day, the Yeongdongcheon-ro undergrounding project (Yeongdong 1st Bridge ~ Yeongdong 2nd bridge ~ Gyusubang) 0.8km and the refugee distance (Gyeongbuk Sanghoe ~ Forest Cooperative) 0.7km are accelerating with the goal of completion in 2022 .
