Former lawmaker Lee In-je said, “It’s time to focus on building a new type of conservative party.”
-Former National Assembly member Lee In-je
President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating has already fallen to the 30% range. Even the Gallup Korea poll recorded 38%. The regime’s final defense is 30%. Sooner or later, that wall will be breached. Political space is like a sea where public sentiment fluctuates. The regime is a ship sailing on the sea. Roughened public sentiment is like anger and brings down the regime like turning a boat upside down. Who can escape the providence of the sea?
It seems impossible for President Lee Jae-myung to calm angry public sentiment and restore his approval ratings. The worsening public sentiment is his karma and no one else's fault. If he has a passionate sincerity for the country and its people, a reversal of public sentiment can be expected. But there doesn't seem to be any such sincerity. Is the end of the Lee Jae-myung administration the ultimate goal pursued by many citizens? If this regime collapses, will a good regime automatically come in? Won't wolves be installed in the mountains and fields where tigers have disappeared?
That's right! A power vacuum is not allowed in political space. The end of the Lee Jae-myung administration is not a goal in itself. It is merely a prerequisite for establishing a good government. So, can a competent government that embodies the spirit and values of the times emerge from our outdated party structure?
Based on my experience, I believe it is impossible. The failures of the two administrations, Park Geun-hye and Yoon Seok-yeol, already prove this. The collapse of the two regimes clearly shows the incompetence and poverty of spirit of the Conservative Party. A major restructuring of the flawed and incompetent conservative party is now necessary. Stop-gap measures don't work.
In the United States, conservative forces, including the Whig Party, gathered together to create the Republican Party in 1880. It was a major conservative restructuring. At that time, the United States was under the Democratic Buchanan administration. The Democratic Party pursued autonomy for each state, agricultural economy, and maintenance of slavery, while conservative forces, including the Whigs, pursued federal unification, industrial economy, and the abolition of slavery.
In particular, the United States faced a crisis of division over the issue of abolition of slavery. Accordingly, conservatives founded the Republican Party, a powerful conservative party, and nominated Lincoln as their presidential candidate.
Lincoln, who was elected president, followed the people's wishes and the demands of the times, led the civil war to victory and abolished slavery. He overcame the crisis of division and strengthened American unity. And through the Industrial Revolution, the foundation was laid for the United States to emerge as the world's most powerful nation.
What about Korea? The Democratic Party is busy destroying national legitimacy and identity. National unification is an unquestionable imperative, but even those who are passive about unification and follow Kim Jong-un's two-nation theory argue against it. Market economic principles are also damaged by cheap populism.
Conservative forces in Korea firmly support national legitimacy, identity, and market economic principles. And we support the vision of restoring the dignity and human rights of North Korean people and building a powerful unified nation through peaceful unification. In particular, we pursue the goal of opening the future of young people by leading the era of knowledge civilization.
Therefore, it is time to focus on reconstructing the conservative party, that is, building a new framework of a conservative party with the vision and capabilities to implement our goals and the spirit of the times. The People Power Party can take the lead in reorganizing conservatism just as the Whig Party in the United States devoted itself to the creation of the Republican Party. Of course, we must set aside all vested interests and create a political party that guarantees fair opportunities to everyone.
Lincoln was once elected to the Illinois House of Representatives as a Whig. He is ignorant of central politics and has no educational background or significant background. He did nothing to found the Republican Party. However, he became a candidate in the newly founded Republican Party's presidential primary and became president.
It would be good to get rid of the preconceived notion that a party can only be founded if there is someone who will become the next president. The times create the characters. As long as we create a fair framework, competent leaders who can manage the government will emerge. Lincoln, the country bumpkin who was created like that, is still the best president of American history.
