Chungnam Emerges as a K-Drama Hotspot: Fam Tour for Writers in Gongju and Buyeo
To capitalize on the global surge in K-drama popularity, Chungcheongnam-do invited top-tier domestic drama writers to Gongju and Buyeo for a promotional campaign showcasing potential filming locations.
On the 9th and 10th, the province hosted a familiarization (fam) tour for 21 writers from the Drama Research Group of the Korea Broadcasting Writers Association, introducing them to the region's historical and cultural tourism assets. The initiative aimed to attract productions to the area, aligning with the trend of drama and OTT content settings emerging as global tourist attractions.
The tour drew a host of acclaimed writers, including Park Jae-bum (Head of the Drama Research Group), known for *Vincenzo* and *The Fiery Priest*; Lee Shin-hwa, writer of *Hot Stove League*; and Ko Sun-hee, writer of *Cheese in the Trap*.
On the first day, participants explored Gongsanseong Fortress, Jemincheon-gil, the Na Tae-joo Wildflower Literature House, and the Gongju Hanok Village, taking in the city's unique, cozy, and tranquil atmosphere. The following day, they visited the Baekje Cultural Land, Busosanseong Fortress, Nakhwaam Rock, Gungnamji Pond, and the Seodongyo Theme Park, experiencing firsthand the magnificent history of the Baekje Kingdom and the region's stunning natural scenery.
Chungcheongnam-do highlighted its excellent accessibility from the Seoul metropolitan area and emphasized the versatility of its tourist sites—capable of accommodating genres ranging from period dramas to contemporary emotional series—to showcase the region's appeal as an ideal filming location. An official from Chungnam Province stated, "We hope that the landscapes of Chungnam, as captured through the eyes of these creators, will be reborn as iconic scenes in future K-dramas," adding, "We will continue to identify prime filming locations and implement linked marketing strategies to attract both domestic and international tourists."
