Nexon Foundation Hosts Traditional Craft Exhibition Marking 30th Anniversary of ‘The Kingdom of the Winds’
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the game *The Kingdom of the Winds* (Baram-ui Nara), the Nexon Foundation has partnered with the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage to present a special exhibition supporting emerging artists.
On the 9th, the Nexon Foundation announced that it held the opening ceremony for the exhibition "Winds at Thirty: Connecting Tradition"—part of its "Borderless" arts and culture support initiative—at Gyejodang Hall within Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul. The exhibition runs until the 21st.
Key figures attended the opening ceremony held that afternoon, including Nexon Foundation Chairman Kim Jung-wook, Director Choi Yeon-jin, and Korea National University of Cultural Heritage President Kang Kyung-hwan.
This exhibition is the culmination of an emerging artist support project that the Nexon Foundation has been conducting since last April. A total of 15 diverse traditional craft pieces await visitors.
Five of the works utilize the *The Kingdom of the Winds* IP. These include "Thief Riding the Wind," a sculpture depicting a "Thief" character and an NPC squirrel using dry lacquer (*geonchil*), *ottchil* (natural lacquer), and mother-of-pearl inlay; and "Guardian Spirits (*Sasin-su*): *Gyesang*," a ceramic piece embodying the Four Guardian Spirits—which protect novice players—with the texture of ancient ruins.
Also unveiled were "Collar Holding the Wind," a painting anthropomorphizing the Four Guardian Spirits as figures in traditional attire, color-coded by cardinal direction; "Dragon Legend *Mansangdo*," a reinterpretation of the boss monster "Dragon Legend" using traditional *dancheong* (decorative coloring) techniques; and "Pouch of Wishes," a textile piece featuring embroidered squirrels and rabbits on a traditional *gwijumeoni* (ear-shaped pouch) to symbolize good fortune.
In addition, 10 works by students from the Department of Traditional Arts and Crafts at the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage are on display, bringing the total number of exhibited pieces to 15. The Nexon Foundation selected qualified students from the Department of Traditional Arts and Crafts at the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage to support the creation of their artworks. Notably, the project was funded by a combination of the Nexon Foundation’s contribution and 67.18 million KRW voluntarily raised by Nexon employees to celebrate the 30th anniversary of *The Kingdom of the Winds* (Baram-ui Nara).
Various events for on-site visitors will be held throughout the exhibition period, and 19 types of merchandise inspired by the "Borderless" artworks will be showcased.
Physical samples of the merchandise will be on display at the venue, and a portion of the sales proceeds will be given to the participating emerging artists to support their continued creative endeavors.
Kim Jung-wook, Chairman of the Nexon Foundation, stated, "It is deeply meaningful that *The Kingdom of the Winds*—a game rooted in Korean traditional culture—has been reborn through the artistry of emerging artists to mark its 30th anniversary." He added, "I hope that through these works, created where gaming meets tradition, more people will discover the beauty of our traditional culture in a new light."
