[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원이 낳은 대표적 항일 독립운동가이자 의열단 창립 주역인 단정(丹丁) 배중세(裵重世, 1893~1944) 지사의 숭고한 애국혼을 기리는 추념식이 제81주년 광복절을 맞아 엄숙하게 거행됐다.
창원특례시는 15일 성산구 상남단정공원 배중세 지사 순국기념비 앞에서 ‘제24회 단정 배중세 지사 추념식’을 거행했다.
이날 행사에는 강기윤 창원특례시장을 비롯해 지역 도·시의원, 보훈단체 관계자, 유족, 시민들이 참석해 조국 독립을 위해 목숨을 바친 배 지사의 넋을 위로하고 고결한 독립정신을 되새겼다. 특히 본 행사에 앞서 열린 ‘배중세 지사 추모 백일장’ 입상 학생들도 함께 자리해 미래 세대가 선열의 뜻을 기리는 뜻깊은 의미를 더했다.
창원군 상남면 토월리(현 창원시 성산구 상남동 일원) 출신인 배중세 지사는 1919년 3·1 만세운동 당시 지역 시위를 주도한 데 이어, 같은 해 11월 만주 길림성에서 약산 김원봉, 백민 황상규 등과 함께 의열단을 창립한 핵심 인물이다.
