최근 ㈜태산 농업회사법인 허광옥 대표이사는 지역 학생들을 위해 1,000만 원의 장학금을 기탁했다. 1994년 설립된 ㈜태산은 전통 가마솥 방식의 앙금을 생산해 국내외 제과·제빵 기업에 공급하는 식품기업으로, 허 대표는 2015년부터 꾸준히 장학 나눔을 실천해 오며 이번 기탁을 포함해 누적 1억 1,300만 원을 달성했다. 허광옥 대표는 “학생들이 지역에서 자신의 꿈과 재능을 마음껏 펼칠 수 있도록 장학사업에 조금이나마 힘을 보태고 싶다”며 소회를 전했다.

이어 ㈜성신 홍명표 대표도 500만 원의 장학금을 전달했다. 부산·경남 지역에서 제과 재료를 전문 유통하는 ㈜성신은 허광옥 대표의 소개로 2021년 영천시장학회와 인연을 맺은 뒤 꾸준히 나눔을 이어오고 있으며, 이번으로 총 6회, 누적 3,000만 원을 기록했다. 홍 대표는 “영천의 학생들이 좋은 환경에서 가능성을 마음껏 펼치며 성장하기를 바란다”고 밝혔다.
소상공인과 지역 봉사자들의 참여도 눈길을 끈다. ‘보리떡머슴과 커피마님’ 김성용 대표는 장학금 100만 원을 전달하며 총 2회에 걸쳐 600만 원을 기탁했다. 생활안전협의회장으로도 활동하며 지역사회 봉사에 앞장서 온 김 대표는 “지역 아이들이 잘 성장할 수 있도록 작은 힘이나마 보태고 싶었다”고 전했다. 영천시장학회와 업무적 인연을 맺어온 엄상철 회계사 역시 500만 원을 기탁해 총 9회, 누적 3,600만 원의 선행을 이어갔다. 엄 회계사는 “지역에서 받은 관심과 도움을 다시 나누는 일에 보람을 느낀다”며 꾸준한 장학 나눔을 약속했다.
