고도지구는 도시 경관 보호 등을 위해 건축물의 최고 높이를 제한하는 제도로, 대구시는 팔공산 등 주요 산지와 문화재 주변, 개발제한구역 인근 등 총 90곳(43.5㎢)을 고도지구로 지정해 관리해왔다. 이번 폐지 대상에는 팔공산 일대 자연 마을과 비슬산·대니산 주변 마을 등이 포함된다. 팔공산 일대는 2007년, 비슬산·대니산 일대는 1999년 고도지구로 지정된 바 있다.

추경호 대구시장은 “팔공산·비슬산·대니산은 대구의 소중한 자연 자산이자 주민들의 삶의 터전”이라며 “보존이 필요한 자연경관은 지키면서도, 불합리한 규제는 풀어 주거환경을 개선하겠다. 기존 관행에서 벗어나 근본적인 변화를 이루겠다”고 밝혔다.
