【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=2026 대구세계마스터즈육상경기대회에 참가하는 해외 선수와 동반인들은 대회 기간 동안 대구와 경산, 영천에서 대중교통을 무료로 이용할 수 있게 됐다. 대회 조직위원회는 12일 iM유페이와 대구·경산·영천 지역 교통기관 9곳과 함께 무임 교통카드 제작·운영을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이번 협약으로 해외 참가자들은 오는 8월 20일부터 9월 4일까지 대구 도시철도와 대구·경산·영천 지역 시내버스를 무료로 탈 수 있다.
이날 협약식에는 대구세계마스터즈육상경기대회 조직위원회를 비롯해 대구교통공사, 대구광역시버스운송사업조합, 경산버스㈜, 대화교통㈜, ㈜영천교통, ㈜영천여객, 군위교통㈜, 행복마을버스, ㈜아이엠유페이가 참여했다.
조직위원회는 무임 교통카드의 운영을 총괄하고 행정·재정 지원에 나선다. iM유페이는 카드 제작과 공급, 이용 내역 집계와 정산을 맡는다. 각 교통기관은 카드 사용 안내와 홍보, 현장 민원 대응 등에 협력할 예정이다.
2026 대구세계마스터즈육상경기대회는 오는 8월 22일부터 9월 3일까지 대구스타디움을 비롯한 일원에서 열린다. 조직위는 대회 기간 해외 참가자와 동반인들의 경기장, 숙소, 관광지 이동이 크게 늘어날 것으로 보고 무료 교통카드가 참가자들의 편의를 높이고, 지역 교통기관 협력 강화를 이끌 것으로 기대하고 있다.
한편, 무임 교통카드의 배부 장소와 수령 방법 등은 참가자 등록 명단과 연계해 추후 별도로 안내할 계획이다.
진기훈 조직위 사무총장은 “세계 각국에서 대구를 찾는 참가자들이 대회 기간 편리하게 이동할 수 있도록 지원하는 것이 원활한 대회 운영의 핵심”이라며 “지역 교통기관과 힘을 합쳐 참가자 중심의 편리하고 안전한 교통서비스를 제공하겠다”고 말했다.

Overseas athletes and their companions participating in the 2026 Daegu World Masters Athletics Championships will be able to use public transportation for free in Daegu, Gyeongsan, and Yeongcheon during the competition. The Organizing Committee will oversee the operation of the free transportation cards and provide administrative and financial support. iM UPay is responsible for card production and supply, as well as the aggregation and settlement of usage records. Transportation agencies are scheduled to cooperate on providing guidance on card usage, promotion, and handling on-site inquiries.
The 2026 Daegu World Masters Athletics Championships will be held from August 22 to September 3 at Daegu Stadium and surrounding areas. The Organizing Committee anticipates a significant increase in movement between stadiums, accommodations, and tourist attractions for overseas participants and their companions during the event. They expect the free transportation cards to enhance participant convenience and foster stronger cooperation with local transportation agencies.
Meanwhile, details regarding the distribution locations and collection methods for the free transportation cards will be announced separately at a later date, linked to the participant registration list.
Jin Ki-hoon, Secretary General of the Organizing Committee, stated, "Supporting participants from around the world to move conveniently during the competition is key to the smooth operation of the event." He added, "We will join forces with local transportation agencies to provide convenient and safe transportation services centered on the participants."
