<브레이크뉴스 포천 = 이용하 기자> 유네스코 세계지질공원으로 지정된 한탄강과 일본 이토이가와시의 청소년들이 지질 자산을 매개로 우정을 나누는 글로벌 교류의 장이 펼쳐졌다.
12일 포천시에 따르면, 일본 이토이가와시 세계지질공원 관계자와 학생 등 14명이 지난 8일부터 11일까지 3박 4일 일정으로 포천시와 한탄강 일대를 공식 방문했다.
이번 방문은 지난 2025년 한탄강세계지질공원과 이토이가와시 지질공원이 체결한 해외 교류 업무협약의 일환으로 성사됐다. 그동안 포천 학생들이 일본을 찾아 탐방을 진행해왔으나, 이토이가와 학생들이 포천을 찾은 것은 이번이 처음이다.
한탄강지질공원센터는 이번 행사를 위해 지난 7월부터 ‘제3기 한탄강 유네스코 세계지질공원 청소년 탐사대’를 꾸려 자료 조사와 발표 준비를 도왔다.
방문 이튿날인 9일 열린 공식 환영식에는 백영현 포천시장과 지역 교육계·의회 인사들이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다. 이 자리에서 한국 학생들은 화적연, 비둘기낭 등 한탄강의 명소를 영어와 일본어로 발표했고, 일본 학생들은 이토이가와의 음식문화와 지질공원의 가치를 소개했다. 이어 양국 학생들은 질의응답을 나누며 문화적 이해를 넓혔고, 최근 개관한 ‘테라 판타지아’를 관람했다.
방문단은 10일 제2땅굴과 철원 평화전망대 등 DMZ 일대를 둘러보며 분단의 현장을 체감하고, 한탄강 지질 명소와 포천 아트밸리 시찰을 끝으로 3박 4일간의 일정을 마무리했다.
백영현 포천시장은 “지질공원이라는 공통의 자산으로 시작된 두 도시의 인연이 이제 청소년들의 소중한 우정으로 꽃피고 있다”며 “앞으로도 양 도시 학생들이 세계유산의 가치를 함께 배우고, 세대를 넘어 지속되는 우호의 다리를 굳건히 다져나가길 바란다”고 밝혔다.
