KT reports Q2 operating profit of 648.3 billion won, down 36.1% year-on-year
KT announced on the 12th that it recorded revenue of 6.6799 trillion won and an operating profit of 648.3 billion won in the second quarter of 2026 on a consolidated basis under Korean International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS). Revenue and operating profit decreased by 10.1% and 36.1%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
KT explained, "Operating profit decreased compared to the same period last year due to the base effect of one-time presale gains from the previous year," adding, "However, it showed an upward trend compared to the first quarter of this year, driven by the expansion of growth businesses such as data centers and real estate, as well as improved performance from content subsidiaries."
On a separate basis, revenue was recorded at 4.5535 trillion won and operating profit at 389 billion won.
In the wireless business, service revenue decreased slightly by 1.8% year-on-year due to the impact of customer reward programs, but the business maintained a stable trend thanks to a steady recovery in subscribers. As of the end of the second quarter, the proportion of 5G subscribers among handset subscribers stood at 83.2%.
In the wired and media businesses, the internet business grew by 1.1%, driven by an increase in subscribers centered on gigabit internet and expanded use of value-added services.
On the other hand, revenue from the wired business decreased slightly due to a decline in home landline services, while the media business also fell by 0.5% year-on-year despite an increase in IPTV subscribers, due to a decline in advertising and PPV revenue.
In the enterprise services (B2B) and AX businesses, overall enterprise service revenue decreased year-on-year due to a base effect following the completion of large-scale implementation projects last year; however, revenue from AX (AI Transformation) businesses, including AI and cloud services, surged by 22.3%.
In particular, driven by increased demand for AI adoption centered on the financial sector, the company secured 22 financial AX projects in the first half of the year alone and undertook the construction and operation of AICCs (AI chatbots/consultation bots) for four of the top five domestic commercial banks.
KT Cloud and Data Center recorded double-digit growth, fueled by the full-scale operation of new data centers and the expansion of the DBO business. In particular, the company strengthened its Disaster Recovery (DR) system by completing the construction of a public cloud based on the Seoul-Gyeongbuk multi-region infrastructure, in addition to the operational effects of the Gasan Distribution Center (DC).
KT Estate continued to improve its performance, driven by the reflection of results from the Daejeon Dunsan development project and the effects of real estate sales. The office business showed stability by attracting new tenant demand, while the hotel business achieved solid results through increases in average room rates and occupancy rates.
Content subsidiary Nasmedia demonstrated balanced growth in digital outdoor and mobile advertising, Studio Genie pursued global partnerships based on premium original content, and Millie's Library maintained its dominant position in the e-book subscription business.
K-Bank continued its steady performance, bolstered by growth in loan assets and improved net interest margins. As of the end of June, it recorded deposit balances of 26.6 trillion won and loan balances of 19.8 trillion won, with the total number of customers increasing to 16.45 million. “KT’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Executive Vice President Min Hye-byeong, said, ‘KT achieved improved earnings compared to the previous quarter through its transition into an AX Platform Company and efforts to improve profitability.’ He added, ‘In the second half of the year, we will continue growth centered on our core portfolio, while continuing to strengthen customer information protection and security capabilities to build customer trust and execute our plans to enhance corporate value without any setbacks.’”
