포항시는 10일부터 점심시간 주정차 단속 유예시간을 기존 오전 11시 30분부터 오후 1시 30분까지 2시간에서 오전 11시부터 오후 1시 30분까지 2시간 30분으로 확대한다고 밝혔다.
이번 조정으로 점심시간에 차량을 이용하는 시민들이 식사나 간단한 업무를 보다 여유 있게 볼 수 있게 됐다. 시는 방문객의 접근성이 높아지면서 음식점과 전통시장 등 지역 상권에도 긍정적인 영향을 줄 것으로 보고 있다.
다만 교통안전 확보가 필요한 구간은 이번 유예 확대에서 제외된다. 교차로와 횡단보도, 버스정류장, 어린이보호구역 등에서는 기존과 마찬가지로 단속이 이뤄진다. 이중주차 역시 유예 대상이 아니다.
유예시간 확대는 황색 점선 또는 실선이 설치된 편도 2차선 도로 구간에 한해 적용된다. 따라서 주정차가 허용되는 모든 구간에 일괄적으로 적용되는 것은 아니다.

박용선 시장은 “점심시간 주정차 유예 확대와 공영주차장 운영은 시민들의 주차 부담을 줄이고 지역 상권에 활력을 더하기 위한 정책”이라며 “실제 현장에서 정책 효과가 나타날 수 있도록 시민과 상인의 의견을 계속해서 확인하겠다”고 말했다.
이어 시민들에게 주정차 질서를 지키고 교통안전에 유의해 줄 것을 당부하면서 제도 시행 초기 발생할 수 있는 혼선을 줄이기 위한 현장 안내와 홍보를 강화할 것을 주문했다.
포항시는 제도의 원활한 정착을 위해 현수막과 전광판, SNS, 시 홈페이지 등을 활용해 변경된 유예시간과 적용 범위를 적극적으로 알릴 예정이다. 시행 과정에서 시민 의견도 지속적으로 수렴해 주차 편의 개선과 교통질서 유지가 함께 이뤄질 수 있도록 관리할 방침이다.
