Yecheon Agricultural Specialty Products Knock on the Door of the French Gourmet Market… Local Experts Visit Production Sites

Yecheon County has implemented a new export strategy to verify the potential for processed foods utilizing local agricultural products to enter the European market through evaluations by local gourmet experts.

Yecheon County announced that it participated in the ‘2026 Glocal K-Food Globalization – Visiting Export ONE-STOP’ program, held in the Yecheon and Andong areas from the 9th to the 10th, introducing products from local food companies to international gourmet industry professionals.

Going a step beyond the traditional method of introducing products to overseas buyers, this program was conducted in a format where international experts directly visited production sites to examine the manufacturing process, raw materials, and local culture together.

The event, hosted by the Glocal College Promotion Team at Kyungkuk National University, was attended by approximately 70 global gourmet industry professionals, including a Michelin-starred chef from France.

Participants visited the production and processing sites of Yecheon's local foods to verify the manufacturing process and assess the taste, aroma, and quality of the products. Evaluations were also conducted with an eye on entering the European market, assessing factors such as the potential for harmony with French cuisine and the feasibility of incorporating products into local restaurant menus.

Four local food companies from Yecheon-gun participated to showcase their representative products.

Chosanjeong introduced traditional fermented vinegar, while Nongbuchanggo presented sesame oil and perilla oil. Chakhan Nongbu introduced Yecheon Soju, and W-Hodu Village introduced walnut oil, highlighting the characteristics of processed foods utilizing local agricultural products.

Although the products varied by company, they shared a commonality: they utilized locally produced agricultural specialties as raw materials and incorporated the stories of the producers and the region into their products.

This event was significant not merely for tasting or product promotion, but for examining their applicability to actual overseas consumer markets. In particular, French gastronomic experts personally verified the flavors and culinary applications of the products, facilitating a process of finding common ground with local European food culture.

Yecheon-gun and the Glocal University Promotion Team at Kyungkuk National University plan to continue providing follow-up support after the event to analyze the marketability of each company and enhance export potential. The plan is to systematically implement procedures that can lead to actual transactions, including product improvement, sample shipments, local menu testing, and connecting distributors and importers.

Through this, the intention is to develop this program beyond a one-time overseas promotion into a practical export linkage initiative designed to facilitate the entry of local food companies into the European market.

Local companies also expect to be able to identify product competitiveness and areas for improvement through evaluations by international experts, as well as concretely confirm the demands of the local market.

In particular, Yecheon County plans to broaden the scope of its export strategy by not only expanding overseas sales of local agricultural products and processed foods but also by promoting the culture and stories of the production region.

Yecheon County Governor Ahn Byung-yoon stated, "This program provided an opportunity to directly showcase Yecheon's agricultural specialties and products from local food companies to international gourmet experts and confirm the potential for entering the European market." He added, "We will continue to provide follow-up support to help companies achieve tangible export results."
