영주시는 지난달 25일 문을 연 문정 야외물놀이장의 누적 이용객이 8월 6일 기준 4,746명으로 집계됐다고 밝혔다.
문정 야외물놀이장은 도심에서 가까운 곳에서 시민들이 물놀이를 즐길 수 있도록 조성된 여름철 휴식공간이다. 수영조와 에어슬라이드 등 어린이들이 이용할 수 있는 시설을 갖추고 있으며, 보호자와 가족들이 쉴 수 있도록 74개의 몽골텐트도 운영하고 있다.
여름철 축제와 연계한 프로그램도 방문객들의 관심을 모았다. 지난달 31일부터 이달 2일까지 열린 ‘시원나잇페스타’ 기간에는 매일 오후 1시와 2시에 각각 30분씩 버블쇼가 진행돼 물놀이와 함께 즐길 수 있는 볼거리를 제공했다.
영주시는 이용객이 한꺼번에 몰리는 것을 방지하고 쾌적한 환경을 유지하기 위해 사전예약제를 운영하고 있다. 현장에는 안전요원과 간호 인력을 배치하고 있으며, 수질 상태를 지속적으로 확인하는 동시에 물놀이 시설에 대한 정기적인 점검도 진행하고 있다.
운영 기간 동안 이용객의 안전을 최우선으로 관리해 사고를 예방하고 시설 이용에 불편이 없도록 현장 관리에도 힘쓴다는 방침이다.

조한철 영주시 체육진흥과장은 “문정 야외물놀이장이 시민들이 가까운 곳에서 더위를 피할 수 있는 여름철 휴식공간으로 활용되고 있다”며 “운영 마지막 날까지 시설과 안전관리를 꼼꼼히 챙겨 시민들이 안심하고 물놀이를 즐길 수 있도록 하겠다”고 말했다.
