Gyeongbuk Webtoon Campus to Host Solo Exhibition by Artist Jeong Mu-gu Capturing Local Life and Memories

The Gyeongbuk Webtoon Campus, operated by the Gyeongbuk Cultural Foundation's Content Agency, will present artist Jeong Mu-gu's solo exhibition, "The Mogamju Flowers Are Falling (Subtitle: Stories Told by Mogamju Flowers)," from the 10th to the 28th at the exhibition hall on Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju.

This exhibition centers around webtoons created using the Mogamju tree, a natural monument located in Balsan-ri, Donghae-myeon, Pohang, and the real lives of local fishing village women as its subject matter. Organized as a complex cultural exhibition that conveys the region's history and personal memories in various ways, the exhibition features not only original webtoon artwork but also spatial installations and video content.

The representative short webtoon, "The Mogamju Flowers Are Falling," was created based on the oral life history of Ms. Im Bok-deuk, an elderly woman who has lived in a fishing village in Pohang. The work captures the process of loss and healing of a woman who lost two sons during the season when Mogamju flowers bloom, reinterpreting an individual's life through a story that connects it with the region's history.

The exhibition is designed to allow visitors to experience a person's life and the region's memories in a multi-dimensional way through various content.

Artist Jeong Mu-gu is a creator who has produced webtoons, picture books, and fairy tales based on the region's nature and daily life. He continues his artistic activities utilizing the natural monument crape myrtle tree and the character "Straight-Bob Girl," which is modeled after his daughter. He has achieved success in the field of region-based storytelling, including winning the Excellence Award at the 2024 K-Story Festival's Outstanding IP Pitching and being selected as an Outstanding IP for the Andong Story School.

Lee Jong-su, President of the Gyeongbuk Cultural Foundation's Content Agency, stated, "The region's nature, history, and the lives of its residents are important assets that can be developed into cultural content," adding, "I hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to empathize with the region's stories in a new way through webtoons." He added, “We will continue to support the creative activities of local artists and continuously expand the discovery of content utilizing local cultural resources.”

This exhibition will be held free of charge at the Gyeongbuk Webtoon Campus Exhibition Hall from August 10 to 28, and is open to all local residents and tourists.
