People’s Choice Awards’에서 ‘올해의 뮤직비디오’(Music Video of 2018) 상을 수상했다.

BTS’s ‘IDOL’ Music Video Surpasses 1.4 Billion Views... 5th Record Total

Title Track of Repackage Album ‘LOVE YOURSELF 結 ‘Answer’’

Break News Reporter Park Dong-je = The music video for ‘IDOL’ by the ‘Global Superstar’ group BTS has surpassed 1.4 billion views, continuing their unceasing popularity.

According to their agency, HYIVE Label Big Hit Music, on the 30th, the YouTube views for the music video for ‘IDOL,’ the title track of BTS’s repackage album ‘LOVE YOURSELF 結 ‘Answer’’ released in August 2018, exceeded 1.4 billion around 9:20 PM on the 29th. Big Hit Music announced, “‘IDOL’ has become the fifth BTS music video to reach 1.4 billion views, following ‘Dynamite,’ ‘Boy With Luv (Feat. Halsey),’ ‘DNA,’ and the ‘MIC Drop’ remix.”

The music video for ‘IDOL’ captures a lively festival atmosphere set against a backdrop of colorful sets that incorporate tropical savanna grasslands, the Bukcheong Lion Dance, Euro-Asian architecture, and traditional Korean styles. The choreography blends the African dance Guaraguara with Korean traditional dance. The dazzling visuals, featuring graphic effects added to a performance that combines Korean Samulnori and Talchum, are eye-catching.

In particular, ‘IDOL’ is characterized by the layering of Korean traditional music rhythms and interjections over a South African beat. The combination of these two disparate elements—interjections such as “Eolssu jota, Jihwaja jota, Deonggideok kungdeoreoreo” and African rhythms—has resulted in a song that is both uniquely Korean and globally appealing. BTS has gained immense popularity worldwide with music that only they can create.

Immediately after its release, the track "IDOL" ranked 11th on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and 21st on the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100. The music video won the "Music Video of 2018" award at the 2018 E! People’s Choice Awards, an American awards ceremony for music, film, and television held in November 2018.

Meanwhile, BTS (RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) is currently conducting the "BTS WORLD TOUR 'ARIRANG'," which spans a total of 88 shows across 34 cities—the largest scale for a single tour by a Korean artist.

BTS will continue their North American tour at MetLife Stadium in New York on August 1st and 2nd.
