브레이크뉴스 박동제 기자= ‘글로벌 슈퍼스타’ 그룹 방탄소년단(BTS / RM, 진, 슈가, 제이홉, 지민, 뷔, 정국)이 내년 2월 열리는 ‘제69회 그래미 어워즈’에 음악을 출품하지 않기로 결정했다.
방탄소년단 멤버 7인은 29일 각자의 SNS(사회관계망서비스)를 통해 “저희는 올해 그래미에 출품하지 않기로 했다”고 밝혔다.
이어 “음악이 지역이나 언어로 구분되기보다 음악 그 자체로 들리고 사랑받을 수 있기를 바란다”며 “늘 함께해 주는 아미(방탄소년단 팬덤명)와 모든 분들께 감사드린다”고 덧붙였다.
이는 ‘그래미 어워즈’가 지난달 한국·중국·일본 등 아시아권 음악을 구분해 ‘베스트 아시안 팝 뮤직 퍼포먼스’ 부문을 새롭게 도입한다고 발표한 것에 대한 보이콧을 선언한 것으로 해석된다.
최근 ‘그래미 어워즈’ 측은 아시아 음악이 글로벌 음악 업계에 미치고 있는 영향력을 고려해 해당 부문을 신설했다고 밝혔다. 하지만 일각에서는 K팝 등 아시아 음악을 서구 음악과 격리하고, ‘올해의 노래’, ‘올해의 레코드’ 등 본상 경쟁에서 사실상 배제하려는 조치 아니냐는 지적이 나오고 있다.
