홍천군은 ‘2026년 홍천군 청소년 국제문화캠프’ 참가 학생들을 대상으로 한 사전 교육 과정을 차질 없이 마무리하고, 오는 27일 뉴질랜드 현지를 향한 본격적인 출국 채비에 나섰다고 21일 밝혔다.
이번 캠프는 관내 중학교의 추천을 거쳐 선발된 중학교 2학년 학생 30명을 대상으로, 지난 11일과 18일에 이어 오는 25일까지 매주 토요일 오전 총 3회에 걸쳐 체계적인 사전 교육 형식으로 진행되고 있다. 해외 연수에 필수적인 행정 절차부터 안전한 현지 생활, 실전 영어 의사소통, 문화 이해까지 폭넓게 다뤄진다.

특히 앞서 진행된 교육 과정들은 학생들의 실전 적응력을 높이는 데 초점이 맞춰졌다. 지난 11일 1회차 교육에서는 학생들이 직접 온라인을 통해 호주(경유지 등) 비자를 신청하고 발급받는 과정을 실습하며 국제 이동에 필요한 기본 행정 절차를 몸소 익혔다.
이어 18일 열린 2회차 교육에서는 강원특별자치도교육청국제교육원의 전폭적인 지원 속 원어민 교사를 초청해 실전 리얼 영어 수업이 펼쳐졌다. 학생들은 홈스테이 호스트와 게스트로 역할을 나누어 인사, 자기소개, 생활 규칙 확인, 식사 및 이동 관련 대화 등 현지에서 즉각 활용할 수 있는 생생한 영어 표현을 연습하며 낯선 환경에 대한 두려움을 떨쳐냈다.

홍천군은 오는 25일 마지막 3회차 교육을 통해 출국 전 최종 안내와 안전 교육, 준비물 점검, 학생 생활수칙 확인 등을 매듭지을 예정이다. 이후 참가 학생들은 오는 7월 27일부터 8월 15일까지 3주간 뉴질랜드 현지에 머물며 정규 학교 수업 참여, 문화 교류, 홈스테이, K-컬처 홍보 활동 등 다채로운 글로벌 프로그램을 소화하게 된다.
신영재 홍천군수는 “이번 청소년 국제문화캠프는 단순한 해외 탐방을 넘어, 학생들이 스스로 준비하고 직접 소통하며 넓은 세계를 경험하는 값진 성장의 여정이 될 것”이라며, “남은 사전 교육까지 빈틈없이 챙겨 우리 아이들이 안전하고 자신감 넘치는 모습으로 글로벌 인재로 거듭날 수 있도록 전폭적인 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 강조했다.
