<브레이크뉴스 횡성 = 김일웅 기자> 횡성군이 지역의 핵심 산업인 명품 ‘횡성한우’의 미래 경쟁력을 책임질 차세대 청년 축산인 육성에 박차를 가하고 있다.
횡성군농업기술센터는 지난 20일 관내 청년 및 승계 축산인들로 구성된 ‘횡성한우 승계농 연구회’ 회원들을 대상으로 선진농가 현장 견학과 맞춤형 과제 교육을 성공적으로 실시했다고 21일 밝혔다.

이번 교육은 횡성한우의 명성을 이어나갈 주역들의 사양관리 기술력을 높이고, 고물가 시대에 대비한 농가 경영 안정화 방안을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.
이날 회원들은 둔내면에 위치한 우수 선진농가인 신천농장을 직접 방문해 현장 밀착형 실무 교육을 받았다. 특히 최근 한우 산업의 최대 화두인 생산비 절감을 위해 ‘농식품 부산물을 활용한 자가 TMR(섬유질배합사료) 제조 및 미생물 발효 기술’이 심도 있게 다뤄졌다. 이 밖에도 축산 악취 저감과 고품질 퇴비 생산을 위한 경축순환 농업 실천 방안 등 실질적인 현장 컨설팅이 이어져 큰 호응을 얻었다.
한편, 지난 2021년 6월 21명의 회원으로 첫발을 내디딘 ‘횡성한우 승계농 연구회’는 활발한 활동을 거듭하며 현재 회원 수가 44명으로 2배 이상 껑충 뛰었다. 이들 회원의 평균 출하 성적은 도체중 480.3kg, 등심단면적 99.7㎠, 근내지방도 6.6점으로, 전국 평균을 훌쩍 웃도는 우수한 성과를 기록하며 지역 축산업의 핵심 브레인으로 성장하고 있다.
박선희 횡성군 농업기술센터 연구개발과장은 “횡성한우 승계농 연구회는 명품 브랜드의 미래 100년을 이끌어갈 가장 든든한 핵심 성장 동력”이라며, “앞으로도 청년 축산인들의 조기 정착과 경쟁력 확보를 위해 인공지능(AI) 기반의 과학 영농 기술 도입 등 단계별 맞춤형 육성 프로그램을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
