KT는 소방청의 안정적인 재난 대응을 위해 국내 통신사 중 최대 규모로 ‘긴급구조 통신 우선전송 서비스’를 제공한다고 10일 밝혔다.
이와 함께 전남소방본부를 대상으로 국내 최초의 ‘기업전용5G SA’ 소방망 실증을 완료하며 국가 안전망의 디지털 전환(DX)을 본격화했다.
이번에 도입된 우선전송 서비스는 대형 재난 등으로 인해 특정 지역의 무선 통신 트래픽이 급증하더라도, 소방청과 소방관들의 단말기를 일반 가입자보다 최우선으로 연결하는 기술이다.
방청 전체 업무용 단말(핸드폰, 패드, IoT 장비 등) 중 약 60%에 달하는 8400여 대가 KT 회선을 사용하고 있으며, 이번 서비스 역시 이들 단말에 대거 적용된다.
인파가 몰리는 축제 현장이나 대형 화재 시설 등 기지국 혼잡도가 극에 달하는 상황에서도 끊김 없는 관제와 지휘 통제가 가능해질 전망이다.
아울러 KT는 전남소방본부의 기업 전용 단말을 자사 5G SA(Stand Alone, 단독모드) 상용망에 직접 연동하는 데 성공했다. 5G SA를 소방 업무에 적용한 것은 국내 통신업계를 통틀어 이번이 처음이다.
기존의 NSA(비단독모드) 방식이 데이터 처리에 5G와 LTE를 혼용했다면, SA 방식은 처음부터 끝까지 5G 네트워크만을 활용한다.
이에 따라 전송 지연 시간(Latency)이 극적으로 단축되고, 데이터 처리 효율성과 안정성이 획기적으로 높아져 긴박한 소방 현장의 실시간 영상 전송 및 데이터 공유 품질이 대폭 개선된다.
KT는 이번 소방청 인프라 구축을 발판 삼아, 5G SA망의 핵심 기술인 ‘네트워크 슬라이싱(Network Slicing)’을 공공·안전 분야에 단계적으로 확대 적용할 계획이다.
KT 네트워크전략본부장 오택균 상무는 “이번 서비스는 KT가 보유한 인프라와 5G SA 기술력을 결합해 국가 안전 시스템의 대응력을 한 단계 높인 성과”라며 “앞으로 앱 슬라이싱 등 차별화된 기술을 지속 확대해 공공·안전 분야를 포함한 통신 초격차를 굳히겠다”고 말했다.
