On the 5th, President Lee Jae-myung described the mutual repatriation of the remains of Korean and U.S. soldiers killed in the Korean War as "the most noble honor paid to sacrifice."

According to the Blue House, President Lee made these remarks during a commemorative address at the repatriation ceremony held at the Seoul Air Base in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, that afternoon. He stated, "This is a promise that both Korea and the United States will remember together until the very end the heroes who dedicated themselves to freedom and peace."

He added, "Today is a meaningful occasion marking the first mutual repatriation of the remains of Korean and U.S. soldiers killed in the Korean War in the Republic of Korea, which both nations steadfastly defended with blood and sweat." He noted, "Over 70 years ago, there were heroes who sacrificed their hottest youth and noble lives to protect the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea."

He continued, "Thanks to the noble sacrifice of those heroes, we were able to defend freedom and peace," adding, "However, there are many heroes who have not been able to return to their beloved hometowns even after many years have passed since the war ended."

He also added, "I believe that returning those heroes intact to the embrace of their homeland is the historical duty that we, the survivors, must fulfill."

At the mutual repatriation ceremony, the remains of 10 South Korean soldiers will be repatriated from Hawaii to the Republic of Korea, while the remains of 3 U.S. soldiers are scheduled to be transported to the United States.

The Blue House stated, "This marks the first time the mutual repatriation ceremony for the remains of Korean War casualties between South Korea and the United States, which has previously been held in Hawaii, has been held in the Republic of Korea," adding that it is "a symbolic occasion demonstrating the steadfastness of the ROK-U.S. alliance and the noble commitment of both nations to honoring the fallen soldiers."
