원주시와 한국폴리텍대학 원주캠퍼스, 반도체 소재·부품 전문기업 ㈜디에스테크노는 4일 오전 폴리텍대학 원주캠퍼스 산학협력관에서 '반도체기업 채용연계과정' 입학식을 성황리에 개최했다. 이날 행사에는 이병철 원주시 경제국장, 권민수 폴리텍대학 원주캠퍼스 학장, 김현수 디에스테크노 부사장을 비롯해 치열한 경쟁을 뚫고 합격한 20명의 신입생이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.
이번 교육과정은 모집 단계부터 총 82명이 몰리며 뜨거운 열기를 보였다. 엄격한 면접을 거쳐 최종 선발된 20명의 교육생은 이달 4일부터 7월 16일까지 총 7주간 반도체 부품 가공에 특화된 고강도 실무 맞춤형 교육을 받게 된다.
교육생들을 위한 혜택도 파격적이다. 교육비 전액이 무료로 지원되며, 실업급여 수급자의 경우 구직활동으로 인정받을 수 있다. 무엇보다 가장 큰 특전은 교육 수료 후 주어지는 ㈜디에스테크노 '우선 채용' 기회다. 실제로 지난해 진행된 동일 과정에서는 수료생 19명 전원이 반도체 기업에 100% 취업하는 기염을 토한 바 있다.
채용 연계 기업인 ㈜디에스테크노는 경기 이천에 본사를 둔 강소기업으로, 국내 유일하게 카바이드(SiC), 실리콘(Si), 쿼츠(Quartz) 부품을 모두 생산해 삼성전자, SK하이닉스 등에 납품하고 있다. 특히 지난 2월부터 본격 가동에 들어간 원주 문막공장에서는 실리콘 부품을 주력으로 생산하며 지역 일자리 창출에 기여하고 있다.
원주시 경제국 관계자는 "이번 채용연계과정이 청년들의 타 지역 유출을 막고, 우수한 외부 인재들을 원주로 불러들이는 지역경제 선순환의 핵심 동력이 될 것"이라며 "기업이 현장에서 즉시 필요로 하는 실무형 인재를 적시에 공급할 수 있도록 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다"고 강조했다.
