대구는 보수의 심장으로 일컬어져 왔다. 이 지역을 TK(대구-경북)로 호칭해왔다. 호남과 맞선 지역이다.
그런데 6.3 지방선거에서 '대구 돌풍'이 불었다. 보수의 심장 대구지역에서 진보바람이 세차게 불었기 때문이다. 소위 대구시장으로 출마한 '김부겸(金富謙, 1957년 1월 21일~) 현상'이다. 그는 대한민국 4선 국회의원, 행정안전부 장관, 제47대 국무총리를 지낸 더불어민주당 소속의 대표적인 중진 정치인. 정파를 넘나드는 통합형 정치인이자, 보수의 심장인 대구에서 민주당 깃발을 꽂으며 '지역주의 타파'의 상징으로 평가받아왔다.
