Kwak Kyu-taek, Head of the Clean Election Headquarters, Announces Filing of Complaint Against Candidate Choo Mi-ae for ‘Publication of False Information’
Kwak Kyu-taek, Chairman of the People Power Party’s Clean Election Headquarters, announced at a press conference on June 1 that he had filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against Democratic Party candidate Choo Mi-ae for publishing false information in violation of the Public Official Election Act. Chairman Kwak asserted, “Candidate Choo Mi-ae made remarks during the Gyeonggi Province Governor candidate TV debate on May 27 to the effect that the allegations regarding her son’s military service had been ‘concluded with a finding of no wrongdoing.’ This is a clear falsehood intended to mislead voters.” He further dismissed the claim, stating, “Upon verification, the case in question is not under investigation but is in a state of suspended indictment. Lee Sang-hwi, Chairman of the People Power Party’s Special Committee on Media, issued a statement condemning the biased deliberation results of the Election Broadcasting Deliberation Committee (ECDC) and demanding the restoration of neutrality and equity.
