포항시는 장미 개화 시기에 맞춰 도심 전역에 장미경관을 확대 조성하며 시민들이 일상 속에서 장미도시의 매력을 체감할 수 있는 녹색 공간 조성에 박차를 가하고 있다고 밝혔다.
시는 지난해까지 영일대장미원, 형산강장미원, 인덕산장미원, 9호광장, 동빈나루, 형산제방 등 지역 내 53개 구간에 11만 본이 넘는 장미를 심었다. 올해 역시 ‘마이로즈가든 지원사업’과 생활권 녹지 확충 사업을 통해 식재 구간을 지속적으로 넓혀가고 있다.
특히 올해는 기존의 평면형 식재 방식에서 벗어나 장미 오벨리스크와 입체형 조형물을 활용한 경관 연출에 집중하고 있다. 포항시청 주변과 주요 녹지축을 중심으로 조성된 장미 오벨리스크는 장미가 만개하는 시기 구조물과 어우러져 색다른 도시 풍경을 연출하며 시민들의 사진 명소로 주목받고 있다.
현재 형산강장미원과 영일대 해안가를 중심으로 장미가 절정을 이루면서 시민과 관광객들의 발길이 이어지고 있으며, 도심 생활권 주요 산책로와 장미길 구간에서도 화사한 장미가 잇따라 개화해 도시 전역에 생기를 더하고 있다.
포항시는 이와 함께 환호 해변 산책로 장미경관 조성사업과 장미길 특화거리 조성 등 생활권과 관광 거점을 연결하는 특화 사업도 병행 추진하고 있다.
아울러 장미 식재지에 대한 보식과 유지관리, 경관 개선 작업을 꾸준히 이어가며 매년 한층 풍성해지는 장미도시의 모습을 시민들이 체감할 수 있도록 할 방침이다. 향후에는 주요 도로변과 공원, 생활권 녹지공간을 중심으로 식재를 확대하고 특화 경관시설도 단계적으로 확충해 도시 전역을 장미 테마 공간으로 발전시킬 계획이다.

Along with this, Pohang City is simultaneously pursuing specialized projects that connect residential areas with tourism hubs, such as the rose landscape creation project along the Hwanho Beach walking path and the development of specialized rose-lined streets.
