충남대학교와 국방대학교가 미래 전장의 핵심 동력인 국방 분야 인공지능 전환(AX)을 위해 실질적인 협력 체계를 가동한다. 양 대학은 단순한 인적 교류를 넘어 교육과 연구, 정책을 아우르는 통합적 협력을 통해 국방 혁신 모델을 구체화할 전망이다.
충남대는 13일, 국방대 이홍섭 총장직무대행 등 주요 관계자들이 김정겸 총장을 방문해 국방 AX 추진을 위한 구체적인 협력 방안을 논의했다고 밝혔다. 이번 만남은 2012년 체결된 양 대학의 교류 협정을 실질적인 공동 사업 단계로 격상시키기 위해 마련됐으며, 충남대 AI융합교육연구소가 주관했다.
이날 논의의 핵심은 국방 AX 전문 인재 양성과 공동 연구개발(R&D)에 맞춰졌다. 양 대학은 대학원생 간 상호 학점 인정 제도를 도입하고, 공동 AI 교육 프로그램을 운영해 전문성을 높이기로 했다.
또한, 국방 AI 관련 연구과제 수행 시 컨소시엄 형태로 공동 참여하여 기획부터 연구까지 함께 진행한다. 정기적인 학술성과 발표회와 세미나를 통해 군 현장의 요구사항과 학계의 기술력을 긴밀하게 연결하는 체계도 구축할 방침이다.

이날 국방대 관계자들은 충남대 융합교육혁신센터인 ‘이노팩토리(Inno-Factory)’를 견학하며 실습 중심의 교육 현장을 직접 확인했다.
이노팩토리는 학생들이 문제 설계부터 제작, 발표까지 전 과정을 수행하는 융합 실습 공간으로, 이론과 실무를 겸비한 인재 양성의 요람으로 꼽힌다. 양 대학은 이 같은 실무형 교육 모델을 국방 AI 인재 양성에 접목하는 방안을 심도 있게 논의했다.
이번 협력은 디지털 전환이 가속화되는 미래 전장 환경에 대응해 교육과 정책이 연계된 새로운 국방 혁신 플랫폼을 구축했다는 점에서 큰 의미를 갖는다. 지역 거점 국립대와 국방 전문 교육기관의 결합이 대전 지역 국방 산업 경쟁력 강화에 중요한 전환점이 될 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.
