브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 미국과 이란 간 종전 협상이 임박했다는 발언이 나온지 하루만에 호르무즈 해협에서 교전이 벌어졌다.
도널드 트럼프 대통령은 7일(현지 시간) 자신이 운영하는 소셜미디어 '트루스소셜'을 통해 "미 구축함 3척이 호르무즈 해협을 성공적으로 통과했다. 공격을 받았지만 피해는 없었고, 이란 공격 세력은 막대한 피해를 입었다"고 밝혔다.
그는 "사실상 궤멸된 이란 해군을 대신한 소형 보트들이 빠르게 침몰했고, 구축함을 향해 발사된 미사일은 격추됐으며 드론도 공중에서 파괴됐다"고 주장했다.

중부사령부는 "유도미사일 구축함 트럭스턴함, 라파엘 페랄타함, 메이슨함이 국제 해로를 통과하는 동안 이란군이 미사일과 드론, 소형 선박을 동원해 공격했다"며 "미군은 이를 요격하고 자위권 차원의 대응 공격을 실시했다"고 밝혔다.
또 "미사일 및 드론 발사 기지와 지휘통제 시설, 정보·감시·정찰 거점 등 미군 공격에 책임이 있는 군사시설을 타격했다"며 "미군 피해는 없었다"고 설명했다.
다만 미국 측은 이번 충돌로 인해 다시금 전면전 상황으로 가거나 '휴전 파기'로 이어질 가능성은 없다고 봤다. 피트 헤그세스 국방장관은 국지전이 발생한데 대해 "낮은 수준의 사건(low level incidents)"이라고 평가하며 휴전 위반으로 보지 않는다는 입장을 밝힌 바 있다.

Clashes broke out in the Strait of Hormuz just one day after remarks emerged that peace talks between the United States and Iran were imminent.

However, the U.S. side assessed that there was no possibility of this clash leading back to an all-out war or resulting in the "breaking of the ceasefire." Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the localized conflict as "low-level incidents" and stated that he did not view them as a violation of the ceasefire.
