On Parents' Day, May 8, President Lee Jae-myung stated, "I extend my deep respect and gratitude to all parents in this land who are dedicating themselves to their families and the nation."
On the morning of the 54th Parents' Day, President Lee wrote on Facebook, "I will move forward toward a 'country where the people are happy,' where the state and community take shared responsibility, rather than a society that relies on the unilateral sacrifice of parents."
He added, "A single parent lives carrying the weight of the world as many times as the number of their children, a reality one only truly realizes after becoming a father of two." He continued, "Today's Republic of Korea stands upon that silent dedication—the time spent unconditionally offering one's back, lifting oneself up whenever one fell, and setting aside one's own present for the sake of one's children's future."
He further remarked, "The earnest desire to hand down a better world to one's beloved children is the root of this nation and the driving force behind its prosperity and growth." He concluded, "The more we lighten the weight of life placed on our parents' shoulders, the more the Republic of Korea will be able to advance step by step toward becoming a truly advanced nation."
He continued, "The birth and care of a child must be able to blossom into complete joy, and parents who have dedicated their entire lives must be able to enjoy a happy old age without worry," adding, "Only then can everyone look forward to tomorrow's life with positivity and dream of a better future."
He further stated, "We are preparing institutional measures to guarantee a healthy and vibrant old age, including 'integrated community care,' 'dementia-safe property management services,' the largest-ever '1.15 million jobs for the elderly,' and improvements to the unreasonable pension system."
President Lee added, "Going forward, we will continue to expand practical support while caring for our parents' lives with even greater meticulousness and affection," and expressed his hope that "this will be a warm time to share the gratitude and love that we were unable to convey today."
