[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산국제어린이청소년영화제(BIKY)가 전 세계 어린이와 청소년들이 직접 제작한 영화를 선보이는 경쟁 부문 ‘레디~액션!’의 본선 진출작 46편을 확정했다.
올해 선정된 작품은 연령대별 부문인 ‘레디~액션! 12·15·18’을 비롯해, 급변하는 미디어 환경에 맞춰 새롭게 신설된 ‘AI&크리에이티브’ 부문을 포함하고 있다. 한국을 비롯한 전 세계 14개국에서 출품된 이번 진출작들은 어린이와 청소년의 창의적인 시각을 고스란히 담아냈다.
본선 진출작들은 AI, 역사, 환경, 전쟁과 같은 묵직한 사회적 주제부터 일상의 고민까지 폭넓게 다뤘다. 특히 애니메이션과 스톱모션 등 다채로운 기법을 활용해 높은 수준의 완성도를 보여주었으며, 영화제의 제작지원을 받은 작품들이 경쟁 부문에 이름을 올리는 등 지원 사업의 성과도 두드러졌다.
가장 눈에 띄는 변화는 ‘AI&크리에이티브’ 부문의 신설이다. 청소년들이 생성형 AI와 같은 최첨단 기술을 창의적인 도구로 활용해 자신만의 세계관을 확장한 작품들이 선정되어 영화제의 미래 지향적인 변화를 보여주었다.
선정된 작품들은 오는 7월 영화제 기간 중 관객들에게 상영되며, 최종 심사를 거쳐 올해의 수상작으로 결정된다. 기존 부문은 전년도 수상자들이 심사위원으로 참여해 청소년의 시각을 대변하며, 신설된 AI 부문은 전문가로 구성된 위원들이 심사를 맡는다.
이현정 BIKY 집행위원장은 전 세계 청소년들의 소중한 시선이 부산에서 빛날 수 있도록 준비에 만전을 기하겠다고 밝혔다. 제21회 부산국제어린이청소년영화제는 오는 7월 8일부터 14일까지 영화의전당과 센텀시티, 명지국제신도시 일대에서 개최될 예정이다.

=46 films from 14 countries selected; diverse perspectives on social issues including AI and war
The Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival (BIKY) has confirmed the 46 finalists for "Ready~Action!", a competitive section featuring films produced directly by children and teenagers from around the world.
This year’s finalists are categorized into age-specific groups—Ready~Action! 12, 15, and 18—alongside the newly established "AI & Creative" category, which reflects the rapidly changing media landscape. The selected works represent 14 countries, showcasing the creative and sharp insights of young filmmakers.
The finalists explore heavyweight social themes such as AI, history, the environment, and war, as well as personal everyday concerns. These films demonstrate high production quality through various techniques, including animation and stop-motion. Notably, several works previously supported by BIKY’s production grant program have advanced to the finals, highlighting the successful link between the festival’s support initiatives and its competitive categories.
A significant highlight of this edition is the debut of the "AI & Creative" section. This category features experimental works that combine YouTube-style sensibilities with cinematic aesthetics, utilizing generative AI technology to expand the creative boundaries of young creators.
The 46 selected films will be screened for audiences during the festival in July, with final winners to be determined through a jury process. For the 12, 15, and 18 categories, previous award winners will serve as jurors to ensure a youth-oriented perspective. The new AI category will be evaluated by a specialized committee for its inaugural year.
Lee Hyun-jung, festival director of BIKY, stated that the festival is fully prepared to ensure the precious perspectives of youth from across the globe shine brightly in Busan. The 21st BIKY will take place from July 8 to 14 at the Busan Cinema Center, Centum City, and the Myeongji International City area.
