정치는 사회의 공기와 같다. 눈에 보이지 않지만, 모든 국민이 함께 들이마시고 내쉬는 존재다. 공기가 맑으면 일상은 평온하고 공동체는 건강해진다. 그러나 공기가 오염되면 누구도 예외 없이 영향을 받는다.
정치 역시 그렇다. 정치가 거칠어지고 혼탁해질수록 사회는 갈등과 불신으로 병들어 간다. 오늘의 우리 사회를 돌아보면, 정치의 공기가 얼마나 탁해졌는지를 체감하게 된다.
서로를 설득하기보다 상대를 공격하는 언어가 넘치고, 타협보다는 대결이 일상이 되었다. 정치권의 갈등은 국민의 삶 속으로 스며들어 이웃과 가족, 세대와 지역 간의 균열로 번지고 있다. 정치가 만들어낸 공기가 국민 통합이 아니라 분열을 확산시키는 방향으로 흐르고 있다.
국민 통합은 거창한 선언만으로 이루어지지 않는다. 통합은 정치의 태도에서 시작된다. 절제된 언어, 사실에 기반한 논의, 상대를 인정하는 자세가 쌓일 때 비로소 사회의 공기는 맑아진다.
정치는 승패를 가르는 기술이기 이전에 서로 다른 생각을 조정하고 공존의 길을 찾는 공적 책임이다. 그 책임을 외면하는 순간, 정치는 사회를 병들게 하는 오염원이 되고 만다.
지금 필요한 것은 더 강한 주장이나 더 날 선 공격이 아니라, 서로의 다름을 인정하면서도 공동의 해법을 만들어내는 의지다. 서로 먼저 한 걸음씩 물러서고, 대화와 타협의 공간을 복원해야 한다. 그것이 국민에게 신뢰를 회복하는 길이며, 갈등을 줄이고 통합으로 나아가는 유일한 방법이다.
정치의 공기를 맑게 하는 일은 선택이 아니라 시대적 책무다. 정치가 제 역할을 다할 때 사회는 다시 건강을 회복할 수 있다. 국민 통합은 멀리 있는 이상이 아니라, 이 순간 정치가 어떤 공기를 만들어내느냐에 따라 그 길이 달라진다. pss2242@naver.com

Conflicts within the political sphere are seeping into the lives of the people, spreading into rifts between neighbors and families, and between generations and regions. The air created by politics is flowing in a direction that spreads division rather than promoting national unity.
National unity is not achieved merely through grandiose declarations. Unity begins with the attitude of politics. The air of society becomes clear only when restrained language, fact-based discussions, and an attitude of acknowledging the other side accumulate.
Politics is not merely a skill for determining victory or defeat, but a public responsibility to mediate differing viewpoints and find a path to coexistence. The moment this responsibility is turned away, politics inevitably becomes a source of pollution that sickens society.
What is needed now is not stronger arguments or sharper attacks, but the will to create common solutions while acknowledging mutual differences. We must each take a step back and restore the space for dialogue and compromise. This is the way to regain the trust of the people and the only method to reduce conflict and move toward integration.
