이번 간담회는 지난해 강기정 시장이 광주마을활동가들의 축제의 장인 ‘광주공동체한마당’에서 “추후 다시 만나 활동가들의 현장 목소리를 듣겠다”고 약속한 데 따라 이뤄졌다.
이날 간담회에는 강 시장과 마을 갈등해결사로 활동하고 있는 마을분쟁해결지원센터의 소통방장, 주민화해지원인, 전문가조정인 등 20여명의 마을활동가들이 참석했다.
참석자들은 소통방을 통해 층간소음, 간접흡연 등 주민 갈등을 해결한 사례와 광주시정 갈등해결 사례를 공유하고, 지역사회 소통강화 방안에 대한 의견을 나눴다.
간담회는 소통방 갈등해결 우수사례로 ▲용산LH아파트 임대주택 내 주민 간 소통 활동 ▲효덕동 제일풍경채 아파트 내 소통의 날 운영 등 갈등예방프로그램 등이 소개됐다.
특히 이날 간담회에서는 광주시가 갈등해결사로 전면에 나서 중재한 사례들에 대한 참석자들의 관심이 집중됐다. ‘공개·투명·신속’ 3대 원칙 속에 7년간의 논란을 종식한 중앙공원1지구, 끝장토론 등 대화창구 마련을 통해 사회적 합의를 이끈 풍암호수, 자원회수시설 입지선정과 관련한 광주시와 5개 자치구의 소통·협력 사례 등에 대한 대화가 오갔다.
이 사례들은 시민들간 오해와 불신으로 극심한 갈등 상태에 있었지만 광주시의 ‘투명한 정보공개’, ‘끝장토론 등 다양한 방식의 대화창구’ 등의 대원칙 속에 신뢰를 회복하면서 문제가 풀린 사례로 꼽혔다.
용산LH아파트 ‘모행소’ 소통방을 운영하고 있는 박현선 전문조정인은 “갈등은 꼭 나쁜 것만은 아니다. 갈등이 생겼을 때 푸는 것이 더 중요하다”며 “간담회에 다양한 유형의 갈등이 소개됐는데, 어떤 갈등이든 만나서 대화하고, 이야기를 들으며 서로를 이해하는 순간 갈등은 풀린다”고 조언했다.

광주시는 앞으로 지역 공동체들과 여성, 돌봄, 청년, 기후위기, 대자보(대중교통·자전거·보행)도시 등 다양한 주제로 간담회를 이어갈 계획이다.
한편 광주마을분쟁해결지원센터는 마을에서 발생하는 주민 간 갈등에 대해 주민에 의한 자율적‧창의적 해결을 지원함으로써 공동체 회복과 주민자치 활성화를 꾀하는 곳으로, 광주시와 5개 자치구에서 운영하고 있다.
