한국스카우트연맹은 2월22일자 보도자료에서서 “한국스카우트연맹은 2024년도 정기 전국총회에서 이찬희 전(前) 대한변호사협회장을 제17대 총재로 선출, 취임했다”고 밝혔다.
이찬희 신임 총재는 제50대 대한변호사협회장과 제94대 서울지방변호사회장을 역임하고, 현재 법무법인(유) 율촌 고문변호사, 삼성 준법감시위원회 위원장으로 활동하고 있다. 초ㆍ중학교 시절 보이스카우트 대원 출신으로서 한국스카우트연맹 부총재로 봉사한 바 있다.
이찬희 신임 총재는 선출된 후 수락 연설에서 “청소년이 콘크리트 벽 속에 갇혀 사는 사회는 미래가 없다. 인구절벽의 시대에 청소년은 이제 어느 한 가정이 아니라 우리 모두의 자녀이다. 대자연 속에서 도전과 개척정신을 배우는 스카우트 활동을 통하여 대한민국 청소년이 건강한 신체와 정신을 가지고 성장할 수 있도록 노력하겠다.”고 말했다.
한국스카우트연맹은 현재 22개의 지방ㆍ특수연맹과 5,000여 개의 단위대를 가진 우리나라 최대의 청소년단체로서, 총재의 임기는 4년이며 무보수 명예직이다.

In a press release dated February 22, the Korea Scout Federation said, “The Korea Scout Federation elected and inaugurated former Korean Bar Association President Lee Chan-hee as the 17th president at the 2024 regular national general meeting.”
The new president, Lee Chan-hee, served as the 50th president of the Korean Bar Association and the 94th president of the Seoul Regional Bar Association, and is currently serving as an advisory attorney at Yulchon Law Firm and chairman of the Samsung Compliance Committee. When he was in elementary and middle school, he was a member of the Boy Scouts and served as vice president of the Korea Scout Federation.
In his acceptance speech after being elected, the new President Lee Chan-hee said, “A society where youth live trapped behind concrete walls has no future. In an era of demographic cliff, youth are no longer the children of just one family, but all of us. “We will strive to help Korean youth grow with a healthy body and mind through scouting activities where they learn about challenge and pioneering spirit in the great outdoors,” he said.
The Korean Scout Federation is currently the largest youth organization in Korea with 22 local and special federations and over 5,000 unit units. The term of office of the president is four years and it is an unpaid honorary position.
