윤석열 대통령과 저스틴 트뤼도 캐나다 총리가 23일(현지시간) 정상회담을 갖고 '한-캐나다, 포괄적 전략 동반자 관계'로의 격상에 합의했다.

 

양 정상은 이날 오타와 소재 프레스센터에서 가진 공동기자회견에서 핵심 광물·경제안보 공조 강화 등 양국 관계를 한 차원 더 도약시키는 내용을 골자로 한 이같은 정상회담 결과를 발표했다

 

양 정상은 이 자리에서 핵심 광물자원 공급체계구축 등 경제 안보 강화와 AI·디지털 결합을 통한 글로벌 디지털전환 협력·청정수소 생산 보급 협력을 통한 시너지 창출·북 비핵화를 위한 긴밀 공조·인-태 전략 소통 확대·수교 60주년 계기 인적 문화적 교류 증진 등 합의사항을 공개했다.

 

트뤼도 총리는 윤 대통령의 북 비핵화 노력에 지지를 표하면서 "여러 방식에서 협력할 수 있는 것들을 이야기했고, 핵심광물·전기차 배터리·AI 등 협력이 가능할 것이며 많은 결실도 보고 있다"며 "(우크라이나 사태에) 두 민주 국가로서 러시아를 규탄했다"고 전했다.

 

또 "전 세계적으로 민주국가들은 푸틴에 대항해 대처키로 했다"며 "(북핵 문제는) 한반도뿐만 아닌 전 세계적 핵 억지력이 더 중요하다"고 강조했다.

윤 대통령은 "팬데믹·공급망 교란·기후변화 등 국제사회가 복합적 도전을 맞은 가운데 개최돼 의미가 크다"며 "한국-캐나다는 양국이 공유하는 핵심 가치와 성과를 바탕으로 긴밀히 협력해 나가기로 했다"고 밝혔다.

 

이어 "안정적 공급망 확보를 위해 향후 양국 정부와 기업 간 광물자원 분야 협력체계를 구축해나갈 것"이라고 말했다. 향후 양국은 외교·산업 당국간 고위급 협의 채널을 통해 소통을 이어갈 예정이다.

 

또 "양국은 모두 2050 탄소중립·탈탄소 전환을 목표로 선언한 만큼 청정수소 생산 보급 부문에서 각자 강점을 바탕으로 높은 수준 시너지를 도출해 나가기로 했다"며 "양국 관련 부처 간 고위급 공동위원회를 활성화할 방침"이라고 전했다.

 

양 정상은 또 오는 2023년 문화교류 행사를 개최하고, 2024~2025년을 '한-캐나다 상호 문화 교류의 해'로 지정키로 했다. 또 정상 성명에서 가치·안보·번영·지속 가능성 등 분야에서의 '포괄적 전략 동반자' 관계 격상에도 합의했다.
