Former Rep. Lee In-je, "President Yoon Seok-yeol's remarks... irresponsible reports that trample on national interests"

“I don’t think it is the duty of the media to report unconditionally no matter what the national interest is.”

-Reporter Park Jeong-dae

In a post on Facebook on September 23, former lawmaker In-je Lee said, "On September 22, the country was noisy due to President Yoon Seok-yeol's rhetoric all day long" and said, "Let's approach it. The pillar that stands at the center of media activity in the United States and Japan, where free press is sought, is the national interest. It is not a written law, but an unwritten law that has stronger normative power than that is in the national interest. When journalists report what they see or hear, if it is judged that it infringes on national interests, they consider and decide whether or not to report it and the weight of the report. I don't think it's the media's job to report unconditionally, no matter what the national interest is."

He continued, “First of all, the exact contents of the words are not clear, and the context behind them is also unclear. No matter how much I listen, I can't hear anything other than 'sold out'. It's not meant to mean something. However, some media emphasized the scene and captioned the wording at will, and even added an interpretation that the words insulted the US Congress and used profane language against US President Biden. "This is not only irresponsible reporting that tramples national interests, but it is clear that there is a high level of tactic behind Korea and the United States," he pointed out.

“As soon as this report comes out, anti-American forces from the Moon Jae-in regime get up and scream like bees,” he said. However, it is unacceptable for low-level reports and mean political agitation to destroy the national interest and crack the ROK-U.S. alliance by ignoring the reality of fighting for the national interest on the diplomatic stage and interpreting meaningless words as they please. I believe that our people will protect the national interest and dignity with a mature consciousness.”
