Okcheon Happy Education District, Hamchureum Curriculum Teacher Competency Reinforcement Training

-im changyong reporter

On the 24th, the Okcheon Happy Education District (co-chairman Jae-jong Kim, head of education Choi Kyung-hee) conducted training and consulting for elementary school teachers to strengthen the competence of those in charge of the Ham Chu-reum curriculum and scholarships. The Hamchureum curriculum is a regional curriculum that reflects the characteristics of the local community and school in Okcheon, and each school in Okcheon is implementing the local curriculum in various ways.

This capacity building focused on establishing a local curriculum and school autonomous scholarship based on a professional learning community. After examining the professional learning community and regional curriculum operation in each school, consulting was conducted on the direction of the curriculum operation through training and individual consultation.

The excellent case of the Hamchureum curriculum consisted of the curriculum-related project learning by Yeong-mi Lee of Annam Elementary School and the presentation of the operation of the regional-linked seasonal school by teacher Hyun-mi Kim of Dongi Elementary School. Cases of linkage of different types of local curriculum tailored to the characteristics of each school were introduced and the teacher in charge helped to realize school-village linkage.

In addition, he introduced a package of local goods related to the local environment and lifestyle of the 3rd grade social studies department, and also provided guidance on how to operate a curriculum in connection with local businesses.

Kim Yeon-bok, head of the Happiness Education Team, emphasized, “The Ham Chu-reum curriculum should be linked to the curriculum, rather than simply bringing resources from the local community and consuming it at school to form a single village education community.” The Okcheon Happiness Education District will then operate a teacher growth support group centered on elementary school teachers, and announced that it will support the establishment of the 2022 curriculum as well as the local curriculum for the second semester.

It is expected that Okcheon’s local education curriculum will grow one step further through the database of school-village linkage Hamchurum curriculum materials and the operation of the Teacher Growth Support Group. Reinforcement consulting will be conducted.

Okcheon Office of Education Superintendent Choi Kyung-hee said, “The Okcheon Happy Education District Hamchureum curriculum is an educational activity for schools and villages about ‘region’, which is important in future education. We will realize a healthy village education community that goes beyond school walls and practices learning in the village, and will practice community cooperation and communication so that students can learn anytime, anywhere. This could bring growth to both schools and villages. Going forward, we will try to systematize and substantiate the school curriculum so that it can create a local and sustainable community.”
