As a company responsible for the local community and humanity, the Hyundai Motor Group contributes to achieving an eco-friendly vision for future generations. HMGICS decided to continue its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, protect resources, and recycle resources by expanding and applying clean eco-friendly energy such as solar and hydrogen.

The center of innovation in the future mobility value chain (value chain) that HMGICS aims for is customers.

Customers of Hyundai Motor Group can easily contract cars online through smartphones, and HMGICS produces cars immediately according to the specifications ordered by customers with on-demand production technology.

Customers can directly watch the process of their cars being produced in a separate space within HMGICS. Completed cars are transferred to the HMGICS rooftop Sky Track, where customers can test drive on the track and receive the car.

Hyundai Motor Group plans to establish a small-scale electric vehicle pilot production system within HMGICS to develop and demonstrate customer-oriented innovative manufacturing platforms. The idea is to use a human-centered intelligent manufacturing platform that combines advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics as a test bed to demonstrate.

It plans to study and demonstrate by introducing a multi-vehicle small-scale production system that can flexibly respond to market changes and demand.

The logistics and assembly systems within HMGICS are highly automated to establish a human-centered safe and efficient work environment. Humans are in charge of detailed work and control of the system, and robots perform difficult and dangerous tasks to create a safe environment.

In addition, the Hyundai Motor Group will discover and verify new future mobility businesses that will contribute to realizing a sustainable society.

Through the demonstration of “BaaS (Battery as a Service),” a battery lifecycle connection service such as rental and lease, we will also study ways to reduce the burden on customers' electric vehicle purchases and improve user convenience.

The Hyundai Motor Group plans to pursue new and creative attempts by implementing Singapore's diverse innovation ecosystem and collaboration strategies, while seeking new business opportunities to expand into the global market.

Hyundai Motor Group also promotes close collaboration with local universities, startups, and research institutes in Singapore through HMGICS.

It operates joint research institutes with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), which are shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading universities, and performs industry-academia projects in the future new industry fields. It will also review ways to conduct prior research on detailed tasks related to smart cities that the Singapore government is focusing on.

In order to maximize the effectiveness of open innovation and verification of future new technologies, Hyundai Motor Group puts its core organizations and capabilities in the innovation business and R&D sector into HMGICS.

Hyundai Motor Group's global innovation base “Hyundai Cradle” and AI-only organization “AIR CENTER” will be combined with HMGICS to promote an open innovation strategy at a speedy pace.

In addition to Hyundai and Kia Motors, a large number of Hyundai Motor Group subsidiaries such as Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Glovis, Hyundai Autoever, Hyundai Wia, Hyundai Rotem, and Hyundai Transys will participate in HMGICS.

The Hyundai Motor Group determined that Singapore has the optimal location in terms of discovering new growth engines for the future through open innovation.

Singapore is a logistics, finance and business hub in Southeast Asia, and has a relatively high interest in new services, technologies and trends. Because of its openness to foreign cultures and high social acceptance of IT, it is evaluated as the best new technology test bed in the Southeast Asian market.

A number of global companies are seeking to enter the Southeast Asian market, using Singapore as their regional headquarters in Southeast Asia or Asia-Pacific. In the case of Grab, a vehicle-sharing company based in Singapore, it has grown rapidly by expanding its services to finance, food delivery, courier delivery, content, and digital payments in Southeast Asia.

Accordingly, the Hyundai Motor Group is expected to raise awareness in Southeast Asia and enhance the brand image by establishing HMGICS in Singapore, which researches and demonstrates future business and technology.

Singapore's strength is that it has a high education enthusiasm, has a well-equipped education system, and has an abundance of outstanding talents that are produced in the industry.

Singapore ranked first in the 2019 National Competitiveness Rankings published by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the areas of infrastructure, information and communication technology (ICT), education, labor, and innovation competitiveness.

In the '2019 Global Talent Competitiveness Ranking Report' released last year by the Swiss Graduate School of International Management and Development (IMD), Singapore also ranked first in Asia.

The Singaporean government proposes “Smart Nation,” which will develop the entire country as a smart city by 2025, as its national vision, and is actively fostering innovative technologies such as smart mobility.
