President Yoon Seok-yeol "Operate the heating of public facilities used by children and the elderly, etc."

Restriction on heating temperature of public institutions "Strengthen support measures so that they do not suffer from the cold"

-kihong Kim reporter

On the 6th, President Yoon Seok-yeol ordered flexible operation of facilities used by the vulnerable, such as children and the elderly, in connection with restrictions on heating temperatures in public institutions.

Kim Eun-hye, chief of public relations at the President's Office, said in a written briefing that day, "Even though facilities for children, the elderly, and people with poor health are excluded, they are operated rigidly on the spot, which is inconvenient."

At the same time, he gave a special order to Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Lee Chang-yang, "to provide thorough on-site guidance so that the facility can be operated at the discretion of the facility manager so that the people do not have difficulties in the cold weather."

In addition, with respect to heating costs for the vulnerable, he instructed to “devise stronger support measures so that they do not suffer from the cold.”

Amid soaring international energy prices, the local government restricted the average indoor temperature of public institutions to 17 degrees this winter, one degree lower than in previous years, through strengthened energy-saving measures.

However, as the restriction standards were applied to public institutions used by vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, President Yoon directly ordered a flexible response.
