On the 29th, President Yoon Seok-yeol appointed former Minister of Education, Science and Technology Lee Joo-ho as deputy prime minister and education minister, and former Gyeonggi governor Kim Moon-soo as chairman of the Presidential Economic, Social and Labor Committee.

President Kim Dae-gi, chief of staff, announced the details of the appointment at a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the same day.

Director Kim said, "This candidate is currently serving as a professor at the Graduate School of International Policy at the Korea Development Institute and the first president of the Asian Education Association. He is an education expert who is well versed in the educational field and policy.”

He said, "Based on the educational field, government, and legislative activities so far, I believe that he is the right person to carry out the education reform tasks of the Yun Seok-yeol government, such as nurturing future talents responding to the great digital transformation and bridging the education gap."

Regarding Kim, the new chairman of the Labor Relations Committee, he said, "He has extensive political and administrative powers, such as serving as the 15th, 16th, and 17th members of the National Assembly and the governor of Gyeonggi Province. “I think he is the right person to more actively pursue the government’s labor reform tasks, such as establishing a win-win labor market through cooperation,” he said.

In the context of opposition from the KCTU and KCTU's appointment of new chairman Kim, he said, "I heard a wide range of opinions from the labor minister and the prime minister, starting from members of the labor union, but the new chairman Kim is bright in the labor field, and most of the KCTU and KCTU are juniors, so he has a more tolerant attitude. I decided that I could have a conversation with him,” he said.

The nominee for the new Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Lee Myung-bak, served as the Minister for Education, Science, Culture, and Education at the time of the President Lee Myung-bak and the 1st Vice Minister of Education, Science and Technology from 2010 to 2013. While serving as a professor at the Graduate School of Policy Studies at the Korea Development Institute (KDI), he voted for the Seoul Superintendent of Education during the last local election, but did not complete it.

Kim, the new chairman of the Labor Committee, was a labor activist and entered the National Assembly as a member of the New Korea Party in 1996 and was also active in the Environment and Labor Committee for many years. He served as the governor of Gyeonggi-do from 2006 to 2014, and defended the conservative group Taegeukgi rally during the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye.
