Go Hee-eun Writer 'City of Lonely People' Published... “Walking the European Alleys!”

Traveling in Europe quietly walking in the footsteps of lifelong friends

-Writer Kim Soo-jong

Artist Koh Hee-eun, who left a deep impression as if standing in front of an oriental painting that is good to stare blankly, stood with <City of Lonely People> (Homeros Publishing House). If the previous work <It's OK to be like this> made me share thoughts, space, and stream of consciousness, my new work brought Europe with the seasoning of 'travel'.

Time accumulated over a long period of time, a European alleyway where we just walked silently. The center of travel that Koh left for is not Europe. In the prologue, he said, "My main job while traveling is to quietly walk in the footsteps of lifelong friends with books and pictures."

The purpose is to meet the extremely lonely and lonely people who lived in the time and space of Europe and the world created by their loneliness. Paul Valery, who lived in solitude as a being who only thought for 20 years before returning to the literary world after writing a desperate book.

Speaking of Renoir, who, even after his knuckles were completely paralyzed, tied his brushes to his arms and painted lively. Kafka, who dreamed of being free all his life, said, "The problem is not freedom, it's the exit." Horbart, a Nazi exile, was struck by a tree that fell in a storm and died while he was writing while traveling around the world.

Oscar Wilde, who lost everything and died because of his love, as in his fairy tale <The Happy Prince>. Even the nude artist Egon Schiele, who thought that decaying, degrading, and dying were the essence of humans and the world and the reason for the existence of art.

The reason the artist's life and the characters in the work come so clearly is probably not because of the European space, but because of the artist's attitude to listen to the artist's solitude. They were still sadly beautiful, who met in the alleys of Europe. It is lonely and overwhelming to fall in love more after it has passed.

Just because it is set in 17 cities in 8 European countries, and the appearance of photos taken directly from various places in the city, does not change the flow of artist Koh Hee-eun. He does not beckon readers to follow. Just still, silently walking ahead, resting for a while, looking around.

Not a package tour guide, but a free travel companion? He simply smiles at the companion who has come before him, looking around with his leisurely pace. It's like saying, "This is the place I've been to before. Why don't we go down that alley this time?"

Rome, overgrown weeds and cats, the pillars jeopardizing the corner eaves, the ruins of buildings scattered here and there, the headless statues, the shabby tomb of Caesar, the public square that still feels overwhelming for a ruin. In front of the splendid traces of old Rome, I fell into a distant thrill.

The city of Florence is like first love, as it was to Dante and Machiavelli. It means too beautiful to be forgotten. It means being too sweet to throw away. So, in the end, it means fateful and poetic.

The 3rd floor attic of Labu Inn. His last room with only a small bed and one chair. The room where he shot himself in the chest and didn't die right away. I sat on the corner of the place that must have been filled with the sound of breath and the smell of fishy blood, staring endlessly at the shabby iron bed.

When you walk through the streets of Paris, you feel the breath of so many people who have passed through this place. Baudelaire was inspired by walking under the bridge and alleys. Sometimes he would have moved around in search of a cheaper room, pulling enough luggage with one cart.

There is no sweet life anywhere. But the fact that I am alive in all these riddles, fascinations and darkness is my strength and my pride and my qualification to love you.

K. in the novel, standing alone and desperately looking at the castle towering in the distance. Like the verse in the book, “K came to this province not to gain an honorable and free life in the first place.” heard.

One day, the experience of standing in an unfamiliar world out of the perfectly structured daily life. Perhaps every trip will be like that, and more broadly, it will be a single inflection point that will change your life. But leaving doesn't mean everyone can stay.

To end it, nobody had to love me, and nobody had to remember me. So it will eventually come back. It may be a little lonely and calming life like a still life again, but it can also be meaningful to gaze at and protect the space that will exist because of those who remember me after I leave.

Malte, who struggled with the despair of the world while writing in a room on the fifth floor of a narrow and cold Parisian apartment complex, is nothing but the image of all of us living today. The story of the prodigal son at the end of the book. The realization that only love that sets each other free is true love and the way to God comes slowly, but with the last phrase “one who could love him has not yet tried to love him,” everything remains as another beginning and a question.

Walking on the road is like living life, and it never ends even if you go off track. Just as there is no need to ask a wanderer where his land is from, so there is no need to ask a person walking on the road where his journey is.

In the days of slow and slow travel, every process on the road was a trip. While staring at the world outside the window and immersed in all sorts of fantasies, he was not anxious even if he could not easily reach his destination. The sunlight shattered outside the rattling car window. The bright light of the field and the people in the unfamiliar landscape.

As I wandered through the back alleys of Venice, I thought about the fact that getting lost can sometimes awaken the human senses so much. Eyes and ears that were sensitively opened in the dark. Skin that was tickled by the warmth of the scarlet light hanging from the old house and the wind wandering through the narrow alleyways. The whispers of the rippling waves. and realized

Author Koh Hee-eun, author of the new work <City of Lonely People>, graduated from Chung-Ang University's Department of Creative Writing and Arts Management at the same graduate school. She works on film, performance, and local cultural content planning. He started traveling one year on his birthday and has been exploring the world in his spare time for over 10 years. Although he suffers from fatigue and insomnia, he considers it a pleasure to travel all day long, following the stories of the old city. He likes almost all genres of music and sports. He cherishes Deep Purple and Metallica's signed LPs, as well as the signed balls of Lee Jong-beom and Lee Dae-jin. In the meantime, he has written <Ask 20 Musical Actors> (co-authored) and <It's OK to be like this>. daipapa@hanmail.net
