What is the situation of past presidents leaving the party and President Moon Jae-in's departure from the party?

“President Moon Jae-in… I predict that he will naturally leave the party during the next presidential election process or when his term ends”

-Publisher Il-suk Moon

Will Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung live in the same party as President Moon Jae-in? Or will you ask to leave the party? Although there is still no visible trend, there are signs of a series of deviations from the policies pursued by the Moon Jae-in administration. Candidate Jae-myung Lee heralded a shift in the post-nuclear power generation policy pursued by the Moon Jae-in administration, and a post-policy phenomenon emerged. In order to win votes, to win the presidential election, as the presidential election approaches, independent steps are expected. It is clear that it will depend on the basis of the next government that Lee Jae-myung wants. Already, at the end of their tenure, the former governments went through the process of leaving the party.

The Politics of the Breakout. When they lose their strength, they leave the nest. At the end of his term, if it was judged that the incumbent president was not helpful in the election for the next president, he was expelled or expelled from the party. The following is a summary of the departures of past presidents (titles are those of incumbents).

▲ Roh Tae-woo = President Roh Tae-woo promoted a three-party coalition to join hands with YS (Kim Young-sam) and JP (Kim Jong-pil). Since then, he has empowered YS for re-establishment of power. YS has been confirmed as the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party. President Roh Tae-woo resigned from the party on October 5, 1992, just before the presidential election due to the demands of candidate Kim Young-sam to leave the party and resigned as honorary president of the Democratic Party of Korea. It was because of internal circumstances that as a president involved in a military coup, it would be an obstacle to the next presidential election.

▲ Kim Young-sam = President Kim Young-sam was humiliated by Lee Hoi-chang, a candidate for president of the New Korea Party, who had served as prime minister and head of the Audit Committee at the end of his term - as the presidential election was imminent. Lee Hoi-chang even made a scarecrow for Kim Young-sam and burned it. YS tried not to leave the party, but it lacked strength. President Kim Young-sam stubbornly refused to leave the party. However, due to worsening public opinion due to the IMF financial crisis, etc., he was forced to leave the party on November 2, 1997, just before the presidential election.

▲Kim Dae-jung = At the end of President Kim Dae-jung's term, when President Roh Moo-hyun of the Millennium Democratic Party was confirmed as the presidential candidate, he left the party saying it would put a burden on the party. The date of withdrawal from the party was May 6, 2002. The reasons for leaving the party were allegations of various gates and scandals related to the corruption of the three sons.

▲Roh Moo-hyun = President Roh Moo-hyun left the Uri Party on February 22, 2007. What was the reason for leaving the party? It was about two things: the argument for the rightful party arrangement of the president, which has been raised by some within the Uri Party, and the blocking of unnecessary political controversies over the strictly neutral management of the presidential election.

▲ Lee Myung-bak = President Lee Myung-bak also faced demands to leave the party at the end of his term. However, unlike previous presidential candidates, GNP presidential candidate Park Geun-hye became the successor president who won the presidential election while suppressing President Lee Myung-bak's demands to leave the party. However, it is likely that she left the party naturally as she continued her imprisonment after her retirement.

▲ Park Geun-hye = President Park Geun-hye was impeached during her term of office, she did not leave the party during the impeachment process, but she was impeached and her life in prison after she was impeached led to her having to leave the Liberty Korea Party. After her resignation, she made the case for leaving the party.

▲ Moon Jae-in = President Moon Jae-in's departure from the party at the end of his term is also being discussed. Opposition figures have already been demanding President Moon Jae-in's departure from the party. Opposition figures such as Ahn Cheol-soo (President of the People's Party) and Jang Seong-min (Chairman of the World and Northeast Asia Forum) have already mentioned President Moon Jae-in's departure from the party. In response, Lee Cheol-hee, senior presidential secretary for political affairs, appeared on MBC radio on November 16 and emphasized that "President Moon Jae-in's party record must be maintained even for responsible politics." He explained that “the incumbent president’s departure from the party is a strategic intention not to place a burden on the ruling party,” he said. However, the question is, “How will the presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung come out in the future?”

Analyzing the departure from the previous presidents, all of them left the party, whether within the term of office or after the end of their term, thereby creating a state of severance with the successor president. Political parties exist in the midst of extreme change. Therefore, no matter how good a policy is, it is bound to change with the times. Change entails harmony in which successors gain power. In conclusion, it is predicted that President Moon Jae-in will naturally leave the party when the next presidential election process or the end of his term is only a matter of timing. moonilsuk@naver.com
